IVF again at 42?

Hi everyone, just wanted to get some advice/thoughts/success stories. I'm the very lucky mum of a four year old boy (from IVF) and desperate for a second baby but worried I've left it too late. I've had two fresh rounds of IVF recently - one led to pregnancy but miscarriage (and FET which didnt take) and one that led to one embryo which didnt implant. I'll be 43 in a few months and I know how low my odds are - but I think the miscarriage got my hopes up a bit. Has anyone been in the same position? Thank you so much x

Hi @AChase, I’m in a similar position. I’ve recently turned 44 and in the middle of a stimulation cycle. I started doing IVF for genetic reasons to avoid passing on an inheritable genetic disease (50:50). It’s called PGT-M. I had to do numerous stimulation rounds for my daughter, now 3.5, and desperate for a sibling for her. I had 3 rounds for a sibling when I was 42/43 and had one early miscarriage and one late miscarriage in Nov at 20 weeks of my darling boy, which was heartbreaking. My cycle in March got a euploid embryo but sadly it was at risk of the genetic condition so we didn’t transfer.
So I’ve got age and PGT-M hurdle to try to overcome. I’m expecting it to take several more cycles but determined to give it my all.
I’m personally an advocate of PGT-A, which I’m also doing. It avoids transferring embryos that would inevitably not implant or miscarry due to aneuploidy ( and the heartache and time that goes with it).

I never had or wanted children but in case I did I tried freezing my eggs at 43 which I failed to get any mature eggs from my 4 follicles , they told me the outcome wont get better if I attempted again as they decline with age . Well 9 months later after acupuncture , Dhea and fertility tablets I managed to freeze 8 mature eggs at just turned 44 . I’m now 49 and I just thawed my eggs which all 8 survived thawing and I got a 2BB blastocyst on day 5 which the embryologist was really happy with and has been transferred 2 days ago ! I also got 2 more blastocysts on day 6 both 2BC which I’m freezing . I couldn’t bring myself to dispose of my eggs without giving this a go . If it’s meant to be then it will happen.
Don’t give up , you still have time and eggs !!

@AChase my amh is very low at 2 and I am 42. I completed a round of duo stim last year which worked far better for me than standard ivf and resulted in three euploid embryos. I'm currently pregnant with the second of the three embryos. I also had some investigations after the first euploid didn't work (endemetrio and Hysteroscopy ) and more progesterone testing throughout. Good luck xx

@CR7 congratulations on your pregnancy! Three euploids in one duo stim cycle at 42 is fantastic. My consultant is not a fan of duo stim. Can you share how it went for you? I have an AFC of 12 and for my recent stim cycles half of the follicles respond and the other half respond much slower, so two batches in effect. I wonder if I’m a candidate for duo. Did you have many follicles develop or just an amazing euploid result with few follicles?

I had 13 eggs collected from the duo - seven made it to day 5. Three came back euploid. So not a massive number to start with compared to others. Can't remember my afc xx

@CR7 excellent response and blast rate! Shows that AMH isn’t everything. What was your split between first and second collections in terms of number of eggs? Last question, I promise, as I know everyone is completely different so it doesn’t necessarily apply to me/others.

Sent three for pgta round one, two euploid - five eggs total collected
Sent four for pgta round two, one euploid - 8 eggs total collected

So defo got more gigs second round which is the whole point xx

@CR7 Thanks for sharing! I had my EC on Friday. Nine mature eggs and all nine fertilised so we’ll see…

Well I just got a BFP this morning with my 5 Day 2BB . Let’s hope it keeps growing !
