Egg Retrieval tomorrow - petrified😢

I have my egg retrieval tomorrow (1st time IVF) and I’m just so afraid. I have been over stimulated and haven’t been feeling great the last few days of stims 😞 I’m worried that because of over stimulation I won’t get any quality eggs and because i have to do a freeze all I won’t have any to freeze. Has anyone any success stories or words of encouragement?

I was the opposite and wasn't really stimulated at all but it is not an easy time anyway. There is nothing you can do but just rest and follow their instructions. It's all out of your hand and by the sounds of it, it will be a freeze all if they get many eggs so just try to enjoy something like a glass of wine or big chocolate bar when you feel you can then just focus on yourself again for the FET.

I had barely any symptoms from ivf due to not being stimulated enough and we got 5 mature eggs and 2 blasts. We had 46 follicles on baseline and we're expecting 30+ eggs due to that but body didn't take up the drugs. Sounds like you're the opposite. There's nothing you can do but prepare to rest.

thank you @Fox01 they have said it is going to be a freeze all round and to be fair I would prefer that giving how I have been feeling - I just hope there is actually something to freeze 🤞

how did you find the retrieval itself?

You will be absolutely fine. Best bit is you don’t remember and have to rest. This is the exciting bit.

BiscuitLover3678 · 07/05/2023 18:47

Also I honestly felt fine after. I know I am very lucky but just to prove it can be absolutely fine.

@BiscuitLover3678 thank you so much for your reply - I don’t know why I am freaking out so much. How did you get on with your IVF experience?

I’m also first time ivf and my transfer was on Wednesday. Honestly I was just really glad to get going with it all and feel in control by doing things. Finding the TWW hard though :( let us know how you get on!

I was really scared for my EC, when they said they were ready to take me to theatre I literally started crying. It is a very scary process especially if you've never had an anaesthetic before as I didn't know how it would be.
In the end it honestly wasn't bad. I slept for the whole thing and don't remember anything. I had period type pain and a bruised feeling for a couple of days which gradually got better. I'd recommend taking some time off work so you don't need to rush back. I had lots of follicles (20+) and I'm not sure how many were drained but I got 10 eggs, 4 embryos and am now 7 weeks pregnant xxx

Fox01 · 07/05/2023 21:21

@Want2bmom i was different. The pain meds they made me take was the worst that the retrieval itself. I wouldn't take the drugs next time at all. I didn't find the tww that hard as I tested early and it was positive but then the tests didn't get any darker so I knew what was coming. I would say I had no control of anything. I wanted more stims and they wouldn't give due to ohss risk and I didn't want to take the pain meds and they made me. The phonecalls for embryo updates was day 1 for fertilisation then we were told they would call in the morning of day 3 if we needed a day 3 if not it would be the afternoon. It was the afternoon with all 5 still growing and they booked us for the fresh and it wasn't until the fresh transfer they told us 1 frozen, 1 didn't freeze properly 🤷🏼‍♀️ and the rest made it to blasts but we're too slow to freeze or something. We will be looking to go private after our next nhs round as ultimately they don't do any further testing or different meds so where will things improve. There's honestly nothing you can do to improve things other than try to lower your stress levels which isn't easy.

Fox01 · 07/05/2023 21:24

@Want2bmom @Jupiteer just to add too that my nhs don't do anesthesia and I went straight back to work as was told I wouldn't need time off and I didn't really feel much different until implantation and pregnancy. Everyone will experience it differently and all clinics have different procedures. Fingers crossed all goes well for you.

So I was a wreck going in this morning for the EC - it ended up it wasn’t too bad I slept through it and ended up with 10 eggs although I had 20+ follicles. Now to see what happens over the next few days…this waiting might actually be harder! Thanks for all the replies x

Just an update for anyone reading the thread - I managed 10 on collection - 8 were mature and 5 fertilised with ICSI. Very nervous and am finding this part of the process the hardest and it’s only day 1! How am I going to get to day 5 😬 😬

Glad all went well! Your numbers sound good. It's an awful wait but you will manage! I have my fingers crossed for your results. I found the Mindful IVF app helpful during the wait. Hope you are feeling ok post procedure?

Want2bmom · 09/05/2023 21:21

@Jupiteer thank you for the reply. I’m feeling ok just really tired and a bit hormonal and sore. I will look into the Mindful App, I think that might help with sleeping 😴 I don’t think I congratulated you on your pregnancy I hope you are feeling well 💜
