Hi Everyone

so I’ve heard all the rave about Mr Ramsay, however, he’s a good 4 hour drive away for us and his waiting list is crazy long.

I have seen a name mentioned once on here before… Mr Steve Bromage who is based in the North. Does anyone have any experience of using him and does he do the same tests and examinations as Mr Ramsay?

if anyone has any info that would be brill- TIA

Hi @Anonbaby - We live up North and so had to decide between going to see Mr Ramsay or seeing someone up here. We ended up seeing Steve and were really pleased with him. My husband had his hormones tested and an ultrasound. He also had a physical examination and it was clear that he had a varicocele so Steve recommended surgery to try and fix it which he had at the beginning of March - so it's a waiting game for us now! Let me know if you have any questions

@marshk thank you so much. That’s very reassuring to hear. Did he test for hidden infections? As that’s one of the main reasons I’m interested in Dr Ramsay but his waiting list is 4 months now

No problem @Anonbaby - he didn't actually as the varicocele was quite prominent so he thought that was the most likely cause of our problems but I'm sure he would test/know who to bring in to test if you want that!

Hi, I live up North and after 2 failed cycles of ICSI, decided to see Jonathan Ramsay and unlike everyone else who absolutely raves about him, I will be honest and say that for us we have been given no extra answers from him. Other than learning my partner has high DNA frag (which my nhs clinic told us would likely be the case) nothing much else other than the usual advice, was given from Jonathan. My partner doesn't have a Varicocele which he was scanned for, and there was no infection or anything, which he was tested for, so there was not much in the form of 'answers', as such! This was in June last year, we had a third cycle of ICSI after that which again failed so at a loss now.
I might be being unfairly judgemental given our position but i think it's fair to hear both sides. He was a lovely man, and at the initial consultation really filled us with confidence but as nothing 'wrong' was found then we were left feeling a bit short changed. It was also very expensive plus travel and accommodation to get to London.

Hi @dogmam thanks for your reply and sorry to hear things haven’t worked out for you yet.

we’re not going down the ivf route as we have two children so I think it’s about feeling like we’ve explored all options to aid natural conception and also to get some answers. We’ve had two so why are the sperm parameters so much worse now in such a short space of time?! However, the cost puts me off because we have pursued so many different things so far and we don’t have an answer or an outcome x

@Anonbaby we were referred through Manchester Fertility - I can't remember exactly how much it was for the ultrasound and hormone tests etc but their price list is on their website I think!

We saw Dr Ramsay and in our case he was excellent. My husband has very low everything with his sperm and all results (genetics, ultrasound, hormones) came back normal. We had a frag test (high) which was expected after our first round had no blastocysts and some hidden infections which we had antibiotics for. We are waiting for the second DNA frag results but our second cycle we used PIMSI and got 3 day 5 blastocysts so either the antibiotics or the PIMSI got us further than the first time.

Hi, I saw you posted last year and was wondering how you guys got on post varicocele repair?
Look forward to hearing from you!

Hi @BeHappyGuide - my husband had another test done in September ish time I think - so 6 months after. The motility had really shot up and the morphology was fine too but not much improvement on the actual count. We decided to go ahead with ICSI and I'm currently nearly 20 weeks pregnant. We're hopeful things may improve as time goes on but feel v grateful at the moment!
