IVF and insomnia

Hi all,

I’m looking for some advice (and a little hand hold if possible). I started my Buserelin yesterday but for about 2-3 weeks now I’ve been suffering from terrible insomnia (which I believe is linked to the IVF). I’m falling asleep absolutely fine but then waking up at about 3 and I’m unable to get back to sleep. I feel like I’ve tried everything but I’m lucky to get 5 hours a night at the moment. I feel majorly stressed that this is going to mean our cycle will fail.

Has anyone else experienced this and gone on to have a successful cycle? Has anybody got any tips that worked for them?

Thanks so much in advance,

Jenny

Hi Jenny
I suffered from exactly the same thing during my IVF. I actually had the same in the weeks before my wedding so it is a usual pattern for me when I am nervous about something.
I would find that as soon as I woke in the middle of the night, my mind would start racing and I couldn't switch off again.
I found the best thing to do is distraction. I found a really good podcast called Nothing Much Happens which is basically a lady reading a fairly mundane (but still quite cosy) story eg. About someone's job or going for a walk. I found that putting it on when I woke during the night helped to distract my mind enough to go back to sleep. Also reading until feeling tired can help.
I am now 6 weeks pregnant after my IVF cycle so although it's early days, it doesn't seem like the lack of sleep affected anything so I hope that is reassuring!

@Jupiteer thank you so much for replying. I’m very similar in terms of it being a pattern.

Thank you for the tips, I’ve already had a look at the podcast you advised and I’ll give it a go tonight.

Ahhh massive congratulations! That’s so reassuring to hear. It’s enough to send you round the bend all of this but hopefully it’ll all be worth it for us very soon! X
