Ovarian Drilling - does anyone have a story to share?

I'm due to get some Ovarian Drilling this month (what joy 😑), and I'm keen to hear from any ladies out there who have had the same procedure.

How was it for you? How was the recovery? Did it help regulate ovulation for you? Did it improve your egg quality? Did you conceive naturally following the drilling? Or did you do an IVF round after your drilling?

Happy to hear all stories, successful or otherwise.

@Kay00 I've just discovered this thread and wanted to know how you got on with your procedure and after?! I had my LOD procedure last week and really keen to know what next steps I can expect! Although, sounds like we perhaps only had our ovarian drilling procedure a few weeks apart so maybe not alot on next steps for you so far! Thanks so much

Hello @sl7uk ☺️👋. I had my OD on 12th May, so only a couple of weeks ago. How are you doing? I was pretty sore for a few days and I've had to take it easy, especially around walking long distances or standing for a long time. I'm feeling much better now, but I'm still avoiding picking up very heavy things.

For me the next steps are to call the clinic with my next CD1 (which was 2 days ago) and they are going to set me up for an IVF cycle in July.

I am hoping it will improve my egg quality, because in my two rounds of IVF so far, I had lots of eggs collected/fertilised, but only one blast on day 5 each time 😣. Both times my day 5 blasts were transferred but failed to implant.

Do you mind me asking why you had the OD done?

@Kay00 thank you so much for sharing, always useful to hear from other people going through something similar! I've been ok so far, I went back to work (from home) the next day, but took it as easy as possible. It's been a week today and I think I'm just about recovered, apart from not being able to walk too far (same as you) and I'm still quite bloated!

I had the procedure as this is my first time ttc. Came off the pill last year, period never arrived and got diagnosed with PCOS. I was given a 9 month waiting list to see a fertility specialist on the NHS, so we went private. I have a slightly different form of PCOS so my consultant suggested going straight to OD, as he didn't think I would respond to any ovulation medication without it. So, now I'm just sat here wondering if/when I'll get a period and ovulate on my own, before starting any ovulation induction medication. Waiting isn't fun...

I'm sorry to hear you're already going through the IVF process. Is this your first time ttc? When will you know if the OD has helped improve your egg quality?

☺️ thanks for your reply too. I think it's quite a rare procedure so it's hard to find others going through it.

Yes, this is my first time TTC, but I've been trying for over 3 years now and have two failed IVF rounds under my belt. Before I went to the fertility clinic (I went private too) I was having periods, but they were long cycles and unpredictable. My fertility consultant believes I wasn't ovulating because my AMH was so high (64pmol/L) so she put me on Metformin (2000mg daily) and Clomid for 6 months.

Scans/bloods showed I was ovulating on Clomid but I never got pregnant. So I moved on to IVF, which has been really interesting as we found I produced chock loads of eggs, and most of them fertilised, but under the scope we could see they weren't cleaving properly. And although the were all still alive on day 3, by day 5 most were dead. It is put down to poor egg quality.

I'll only know if the OD has helped on my next IVF round. I hope it does, or I think my only chance of conceiving will be with donor eggs.

I got my period 2 weeks after OD, so fingers crossed you will soon too. And the bloating should go down for you in the next few days x mine has gone now xx
