IVF with low amh - any positive stories

Hello

I have an amh of 1 (as last summer so probably lower now) and I am going for IVF in the summer. I have been told to expect one or two eggs and there is a high chance I won't make to retrieval etc . It sounds all doom and gloom.

I am wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and had some success or not(my fsh has been tested once and it was 25).

Thank you.

Hi currently in this situation now.on day 5 of stims and only 1 follicle. I'm unsure if they will cancel. Have another scan on Wed.

Mac425 · 01/05/2023 18:40

@IVFlife thanks for posting. I had a scan last month which showed one follicle. Would you mind keeping me updated? Helping me to know what to expect. So if it's cancelled does that mean you pay for that cycle?

You pay for what's happened so far. So would get a refund on a sliding scale. (Well that's how my clinic works anyway)

Do you have POI?

Mac425 · 01/05/2023 20:17

Yes. So the clinic have said there is a high chance of no eggs etc. I'm really dreading it. I have my first appointment next week.

@Mac425 you asked me to keep you updated - sadly go no eggs. Obviously devastated.

despite being on the highest meds. We thought we had ONE follicle but it actually turned out at the next scan to just have been a cyst. Bloods got lower after second scan showing there were no eggs in there.

I really truley believe them now when they have explained how unlikely it was to work. If I am honest I didn't beleive them before. I thought my body would respond. I am utterly heartbroken but I am so glad I tried.

We will grieve this chapter and then probably explore donor eggs.

If you have a chance to try with your eggs then I would recommend it. I was meant to in 2020 then covid hit and I was told things had probably progressed too far. But I couldn't get it out my head. Perhaps we should have pushed during covid to try but we are where we are. I feel like I have some closure now. I did everything for 6 months prior - the special diet, fertility yoga, took DHEA, vit d, high dose folic acid etc etc.

Good luck. Miracles do happen.

IVFlife · 06/05/2023 10:20

@Mac425 I also have POI

Mac425 · 06/05/2023 18:45

@IVFlife thank you for the update. Sorry it's not great news. Sounds like you have tried everything though.

Hi @Mac425 I've just come across this thread and thought I can contribute as least re eggs - I had AMH of 0.8 in Feb 2021 - I have not had it tested again since. I've been with Create as they specialise in women with low AMH/older women and they do natural modified IVF or mild IVF so lower doses/less days of stims - their belief is that you should just try to get one or two good quality eggs - although obviously those with better AMH/AFC get way more than that anyway.

I did my first EC with them Nov 2021 and my last yesterday. Most cycles I got only 1 egg but I have had a few cycles where I got 2 eggs - including the one yesterday which is 2 years after my AMH was 0.8 AMH - who knows how low it is now but it is probably 0.5 or less. For context I'm 36.5 years old now.

I was egg freezing so obviously I don't know the quality of these eggs but I did also have a natural conception when I was trying with my partner in Nov 22. Sadly it ended in an early miscarriage but at least I know they can fertilise a bit!

Hope this helps.

Thank you @Rosiestraws .

I looked into natural IVF as I hate the thought of injections. However I'm in Scotland so it would be difficult to do it. It's great you've been able to get eggs and I hope you have some success soon 🤞

Hi all,

I have a low AMH 5.20, it was 10 before I had a laparoscopy which found and removed endometriosis (stage 1). Never knew I had endometriosis so it was found during fertility investigations.

I just had my first egg retrieval, 7 follicles = 6 eggs. Waiting game now to get to say 5. We have chosen to do ICSI. I was expecting to get even a few more eggs but I guess my low AMH needs to be factored. Has anyone had success with a similar story?

Custard7891 · 07/03/2024 15:50

@Dublingirl1234 I had AMH of 4.0 following laparoscopy and removal of tubes. First round of stims using high dose of Ovaleap produced 8 eggs I think, and 6 fertilised. In the end none of them made it to good quality blastocysts. I was then put on Menopur stims combined with small dose of Ovaleap and the results were amazing by comparison - 15 eggs, 12 fertilised, 9 blastocysts. The change in medication was a great call as I obviously responded much better and my low AMH clearly didn't matter. Wishing you all the best on your journey.
