Thin uterus lining - actions before hysteroscopy

Hi all,
my and my OH did our first round of ivf in November but unfortunately had a missed miscarriage and I ended up having a D&C in January.

since then I have tried to have two transfers (one natural one medicated) which have both been cancelled due to a thin lining. the doctors now think I may have scarring from the D&C and hve suggested a hysteroscopy.

however looking at a hysteroscopy I think the waiting list is 3months on nhs (4-6 weeks privately) and then requires about 10 weeks recovery before another cycle. As you can imagine we are not so keen.

I am tempted to ask for one more natural cycle where I am going to try everything naturally to increase my lining. Does anyone have any suggestions of what we can try?

any help appreciated!! Thanks!

I'm having a hysteroscopy / polyp removed this week and my consultant has advised I can start IVF straight away (menstrual cycle dependent).

According to him there is no need to wait 10 weeks. I trust his judgment but its probably best to follow your consultants guidance.

I’ve been in exactly the same boat as you and would recommend the hysteroscopy!
Where are you based? My appointment and surgery were within a week; I’m in London.

No need to wait to continue in some cases; I had it in November with a coil fitted post surgery; had to wait six wks and started IVF in Feb once the meds came back in stock.
I'm still plagued with a thin lining and might need another hysteroscopy but if you don’t have it and you have another month with a thin lining, you’re already at 8 weeks ish before you try again.
if there is a wait, you could get yourself on the list and see what happens whilst you wait?
good luck! It’s a gruelling journey but hopefully it will all be worth it x

Hi @Marilala and @AlwaysAnxious3105 thank you both for coming back to me! It’s interesting you say you don’t have to wait after the operation to do ivf I will look into this a bit more!

@AlwaysAnxious3105 I am london based too. Doing ivf at kings but they don’t do hysteroscopies. They have recommended I speak to the London clinic. Where did you get your hysteroscopy done?

thanks!

Hello! So sorry for the delay in replying!
mum with kings too and had it with Kings but this was after I’d had a MMC so they treated me at the same time.
How have you been getting on? Did you manage to get anywhere this past month?

Foreverhoping33 · 12/05/2023 12:38

Hi @AlwaysAnxious3105 i also had my mmc procedure at kings and I think it all went smoothly.
I had a private consultation with another doctor who said he thought I had a low chance of scarring. He said people with low bmi (like I do) often just have thinner linings. and that if my lining can get to 6.5mm then we should do a transfer.
so for now I have told kings fertility I want to go ahead with a natural FET next month and see what happens. I’m crossing all my fingers that my lining thickens up on its own. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 but we will see.
thanks for your response!

Forgot to mention I am also on waiting list for hysteroscopy at kings. Have had pre-surgery bloods but no idea when it is planned in for.

Ahh amazing! Best of luck. My lining is just being stubborn and doing nothing - I’m trying more meds over 3 months to hope this has some impact 🤷🏻‍♀️
Kings are utterly brilliant and have lots of options to consider.
do you know what your lining has been getting to?

Foreverhoping33 · 12/05/2023 19:58

Thanks! I have tried to do a FET twice first in February/March was a natural cycle and lining got to 6.5mm. The. March/April cycle was medicated on Estrogen injections but it only got to 5.5mm. Not really sure what happened.
period started today so going to try and do a natural FET again. Really hoping it will thicken up naturally and now it has had a month going on two off any medication which is the first time since MMC. We will see though.

how thick does your lining get to and what are your plans going forwards for ivf?
