Your stories with only 1 embryo to transfer

Does anyone have any positive stories about only having 1 embryo to transfer? I have low AMH and had 4 mature eggs collected yesterday. Just had a phone call to say that only 1 of them had fertilised normally and 2 of them had shown activation, but weren’t showing signs of progressing as the pronuclei weren’t visible.

We’re holding out hope that this one makes it to day 5, but any stories with just the one embryo?

Hi, I don’t have any positive stories I’m afraid but have been in the same position so I know how it feels. I don’t suppose it will make you feel any better because it didn’t for me but it does just take one so try to stay positive. Are they going to leave it until day 5? When I’ve only had one embryo, they’ve done a day 2 or day 3 transfer, on the basis that they know which one they’re putting back. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Yes. 2 eggs, 1 embryo. I bfp who is now 8 years old! I had low amh too and I had very low expectations of it working- but it did! I hope it does for you too.

btw on an unrelated note, low amh has no impact on natural conception if that’s your only issue.

I got two eggs my first IVF cycle, of which only one fertilised normally, and it made it all the way to day 5 and then to transfer. Chemical pregnancy but it did take.

Yes, one viable embryo only, did a FET. He is now two years old.

the second round didn’t work but we are into our next round now and praying for a viable embryo. It really does only take one. We had ours tested before transfer which massively increases chances as you only transfer an embryo that is genetically viable. Wishing you so much luck x

Hi @ohsheglows I have many stories all about myself!

1 round of IVF: only one fertilised, only made it to morula and BFN

Another round: 4 fertilised all disintegrated by day 3

another round: only 2 fertilised, gave up hope and was Googling donor egg. Both became AA blasts! BFN and 1 still frozen

Another round: only 1 embryo - my DD

so it could go any way but still lots of hope!

Thank you to everyone who has shared their stories, I went off social media/Mumsnet on the weekend to reset myself. We just got a phone call to say that the one that had fertilised successfully now has 7 cells but says it's average quality... so I'm holding out it makes it to day 5!

I have loved hearing your stories - they really have helped me feel more positive about the situation!

Thank you for the positive stories. I am currently 2dp5dt with our only viable embryo after my first cycle so reading these has really helped. Trying to stay positive but was hoping to have at least one back up in the freezer.

I'm just turned 40 so wasn't expecting super high numbers but from 11 eggs and 7 fertilised I thought we may have had more embryos.

@ohsheglows how did you get on?

ohsheglows · 26/04/2023 19:52

@April623 still in my 2WW. It was a nail biting ride as as on day 5 they were going to call me to cancel the transfer as the embryo stopped growing, then half an hour later, it started up again and ended up turning into an early blastocyst. We had the transfer anyway but the embryologist was very pessimistic about it. I've had some bleeding though so I'm pretty sure I'm out! How are you feeling?

@ohsheglows Oh gosh that does sound stressful. When are you due to do your test?

I feel fine apart from some cramping which is worrying. I know it can be a good sign but it feels so much like period pains 😣 No spotting as of yet. I'm supposed to do my test on 8th May but am sure I will do it before then.
