Hi,

Just done 1st round of IVF due to male factor so had to have ICSI. Yesterday was my egg retrieval and I was so delighted to hear there were 15 eggs retrieved but got a phonecall from the embryologist today to say only 13 of those eggs were mature and out of those 13, only 2 have fertilised on day 1. I am so devastated and cried all morning about it.

I don’t know what I’m looking for - maybe some reassurance of positive stories or someone to set my expectations. Can only 2 embryos that made it to day 1 go on to make it?

The clinic we are at only does day 5 transfers and I am feeling hopeless that we will even reach that stage.

These have really been the hardest few months of my life I just don’t know how I’m going to cope if this fails.

@AlisonDanuta thanks so much for sharing. I'm just starting this journey and still learning so much. It's something that was offered to us but we haven't selected it yet. I'll share this with my hubby and see what he thinks

Pineapple89 · 10/04/2023 23:46

@Jcl22 can only speak from our personal experience. We had very poor fertilisation rates in the first cycle. The clinic suggested to do AOA as part of the second cycle which we’ve just had a few weeks ago. In our case, AOA did not improve our fertilisation rates. We were told that the quality of the sperm is at fault. I’d try everything that’s being offered including AOA (you never know and may work in your case).. but @charja100 is right that your husband should do all vitamins etc.

Protocol wise - I had a complete revamp of meds for the second cycle. It only helps when there are issues with eggs but when you produce a good number of mature eggs anyway, it’s the sperm that requires more work.

Jcl22 · 11/04/2023 08:56

@Pineapple89 thanks for replying! Yeah that’s what I’m scared of - that AOA won’t change anything and we have to go through this all again for same result. It’s just so draining. Husband has been taking the wellman conception multivitamin but doesn’t seem to have had any effect. Done some research yesterday and have ordered impryl for him to take and hope it helps 🤞🏼 now torn between giving these vitamins a go for the suggested 3 months before trying icsi again or having another go next cycle with AOA.

yeah I think they aren’t considering changing protocol for me as 15 eggs were retrieved and out of then 13 were mature which they said they were happy with.

it’s all just such a rollercoaster

So update from me. I had my second stims scan today and follicles have progressed. Had 20 follicles from 9 to 25 with most around 11 - 16. I did my trigger shot at 9:45 tonight and have my egg collection on Friday. I'm equally excited and nervous as this is my first round and just eager to see how we do with my final egg collection outcome.

We will be using ICSI and Zymot, and are planning for a fresh day 5 transfer. thanks for sharing on Zymot @AlisonDanuta as helped with our decision making.

AlisonDanuta · 13/04/2023 08:19

@charja100 I honestly believe everything put together helps. I believe that Zymot has selected best swimmers and now we're pregnant!
I wish you all the best for egg collection!
I was the same excited and nervous as stimulation is a long proces to find out how many eggs!
I have very low Amh for my age so that was a pressure to have good quality eggs as we were advised to use donor eggs on our last cycle (3rd) but we knew deep down we wanted to give it another go!
Trust your intuition ✨️
Give usvan update tomorrow!

charja100 · 14/04/2023 20:12

So little update from me, egg collection went ahead today and they collected 14 eggs, I'm so pleased! They said they struggled to collect them so had to push about a bit to push my ovaries down from my stomach and I might be a bit bruised. I'm on codeine and can already feel the bruising. Not looking forward to tomorrow. Has anyone else had similar and have any advice?

I have low ish AMH at 8 but seem to have responded well to stims. Im certain it's because I've been taking all the recommended vitamins in it starts with the egg. Coq10 Ubiquinol 600mg, alpha lipoic acid, Acetyl cysteine, vita west vital DHA, Vit C, Vit D, Multi vitamin including folate.

As some of you will have already read I've had hubby on all sorts too as we're male factor, really hoping it's helped his sperm. We were supposed to use Zymot to prepare his sperm, we decided that in my last consultation. Unfortunately the embryologist said today that the concentration per million was too low for them to use Zymot. Now I'm nervous even though we seem to have good eggs numbers we're not going to get great fertilisation. Praying for good news tomorrow.

@AlisonDanuta Huge congratulations on your positive!✨💝

AlisonDanuta · 15/04/2023 06:36

@charja100 14 wggs is excellent! Well done! Sorry that you're bruised! Rest for couple of days and I'm sure you'll start to heal - it's amazing what our body is capable off!!

Now fingers crossed for fertilisation, you'll receive a call today probably to let you know. I would suggest to focus that you need THE one! So the most important update is day 5! Unless clinic decides to do day 3 transfer. But they usually wait till day 5. I learned that nothing is like in "a book" and anything can happen so think positively!
I felt like I've lost hopes for blastocyst but here we are!
Zymot is another thing that gives you more hope but if it's not meant to be - it's not going to decide about the whole treatment. So keep your hopes up!

charja100 · 15/04/2023 08:49

Morning @everyone

So we've just had the call from the embryologist and I can't help but feel disappointed 😔

14 eggs
13 mature and injected with ICSI
5 fertilised
Now it's a waiting game to see how many make it to Wednesday.

When she said 13 we're mature and injected I was expecting much higher fertilisation rate having used ICSI. I did just question this and she said yes it's normally a 70% success rate and we only have 40%.

I'm pretty gutted to be honest. I was worried this might happen when they said we could t use Zymot.

Does anyone have any advice?

charja100 · 18/04/2023 21:07

@everyone how are we all getting on?

AlisonDanuta · 18/04/2023 21:17

@charja100 have you healed after egg collection ? Hope you're better. Have you had any news on how your embryos are doing? Fingers crossed for you

charja100 · 18/04/2023 21:26

@AlisonDanuta hey, thanks for dropping by. I'm getting there slowly still pretty tender tbh, curious to know when I'll feel back to myself. The bloating and swelling seems to be going as of today though so hopefully getting back to normal. How long did it take you on your cycles?

So I won't hear anything real on embryos until tomorrow. I did call and ask for some kind of update on Monday (Day 3) she said 4 were progressing okay. One looked poor. So just waiting for tomorrow now!

I hope to hear in the morning as I'm scheduled for a fresh transfer at 2pm tomorrow afternoon!

How are you getting on? Are you getting symptoms now? X

AlisonDanuta · 18/04/2023 21:33

@charja100 good luck for tomorrow! Fingers crossed for a healthy blastocyst!

To be honest i feel bloated since taking injections! Feel like I've not had my "normal" belly for ages. Just gave up now as this is part of the process..

I assume all good with me atm as didn't have any bleeding etc so hoping for those 2 and half week to go fast till my first scan.. trying to stay calm but keep having some random pains in my lower belly... apparently it is normal but every time i worry lol
Good luck for tomorrow!

charja100 · 19/04/2023 07:36

@AlisonDanuta thank you! Not long now, equally excited now as I am nervous.

Try not to worry. (So easy to say, but so much harder to do) Have you got anything planned to distract yourself? I'm not quite sure how I'm going to get through the waiting TBH!

Im feeling less and less bloated as each day goes by thankfully, but as you say still not back to normal.

AlisonDanuta · 19/04/2023 21:26

@charja100 How dud you get on? Hope you're ok

charja100 · 19/04/2023 21:32

So we had four of the five make it to today. But one wasn't good enough to freeze so three really. Two have gone in the freezer. They were grade 2 (very good) and care maps of 6 and 7

The best one was also grade 2 (very good) with a score of 10 on Care Maps (which is the highest score). It's already started hatching, which I've been told is a good thing. Its now safely on board and I just have to wait. Obviously we don't know if there's any chromosome issues but I'm being positive.

Now it's just time to wait! This is going to be a long two weeks! @AlisonDanuta

charja100 · 21/04/2023 20:11

@pongom this is the one. Just realised I could rage you 🤗

charja100 · 21/04/2023 20:12

Oh for goodness sake. *tag not rage 🤣

AlisonDanuta · 23/04/2023 16:56

@charja100 that is really good result!
How is your 2ww going? Any symptoms?

We've also had the one transferred that was 10 on care maps, it's very promising!
Fingers crossed!
I still can't believe I'm 6+2

My breasts are still sore!

charja100 · 23/04/2023 18:39

@AlisonDanuta H that gives me some hope!
I've had headaches and twinges in my uterus but that's about it in terms of symptoms. Nothing that couldn't be being caused by the progesterone, so who knows. It's a waiting game.

When did you test? Im not sure I'm going to be able to hold out to the OTD, I have a deer in a drawer upstairs from when we were TTC naturally and I know I'm going to want to use it before the 2nd May!

charja100 · 23/04/2023 18:39

A Frer*

AlisonDanuta · 23/04/2023 18:45

Awww @charja100 twinges it's a good sign. Try to stay positive although i know part of me was trying to be realistic so whatever works for you!
I've tested just day before the actual testing day which was set up for 9 days after the transfer.
What is your testing date? I was in mind i rather be in hope for longer than false depression! Lol

charja100 · 23/04/2023 18:46

My official test date is 2nd May which is 14days post 5day transfer. I don't think I can't wait that long.

charja100 · 25/04/2023 06:24

Morning @everyone

So I'm now 6 dp5dt from ET from my fresh IVF ICSI cycle. I've had bleeding for the last two and a half days. It started the evening 4dp5dt and was pink and very light, yesterday was very light red brown spotting and today was more heavy but much darker brown spotting.

I know I should have waited but I couldn't help myself but take a test as had one in the drawer. I swear I can see it... can you see it too or have I got line eyes?

Help please ladies... first ever squinter in 3 years TTC with DH

Icsi results
AlisonDanuta · 25/04/2023 11:29

Hi @charja100 I would contact your clinic for advisebon the bleeding. This is what they say if you are worrying
Was it heavy bleeding or spotting ie how many pads and how often did you have to use?
I'd recommend to wait with testing at least to 9 days post transfer.
Fingers crossed for you

charja100 · 25/04/2023 19:44

Thanks @AlisonDanuta.
I called my clinic today. They're going o call me back tomorrow. It was faint initially light pin really light and dark brown. But today it's gotten heavier and much redder. Think I'm out now. They're going to call me back tomorrow.
