Hi there,
just wondering if anybody on here has experience of their thyroid gland suddenly swelling up and becoming tender too?
I’m 43 with no previous thyroid issues, in fact I had a full thyroid profile assessment done just 5 months ago at the start of an IVF cycle and everything came back normal.
I’m freaking out as after a rather long process we are finally due to start a frozen embryo transfer in just about 2 weeks and worried this could jeopardise all of that.
Ideally looking for positive stories of people for whom it just turned out to be the result of a viral infection maybe like a cold and cleared up without consequences in a few days. Or perhaps a temporary effect of IVF drugs? I’m currently on Norethisterone as this a prep month. I’ll try to get a private referral for some tests as soon as I’m back in the country tomorrow, but I don’t want to tell my clinic just yet until I know it’s definitely cause for concern as it may be nothing and I don’t want the transfer to be cancelled for nothing.
Thank you anyone who may be able to help X

@clhiu hi there, I saw your post and was wondering what your outcome was in the thyroid topic? My FET has been cancelled due to thyroid but I am going back to get more tests to work out if it was viral or not as my first symptoms were pain in the throat area.

Hi @StormsPassIVF, I managed to extend my time on Norethisterone to buy myself some time and saw a specialist thyroid surgeon really quickly thanks to having private medical insurance at work. The FET cycle was just delayed by a week as my thyroid nodules were not found to be reason for concern, also my TSH levels were normal as my other anti-bodies levels. Because there were no actual issues with my thyroid, I didn’t require any treatment so cannot give advice there, really sorry. I hope you can resolve the issue and have your transfer soon x

Hi @clhiu thank you so much for responding. That’s great that your FET cycle was delayed and not cancelled.

That makes sense if your TSH and antibodies were normal. My clinic didn’t do the check before we started so have just got full bloods back and mine looks to be the auto immune type so off to the endocrinologist on the private healthcare tomorrow as the clinic said it’s mega urgent as I am 39. Might take a few months to stabilise.

Thank you so much. Hope all ok with your IVF journey 🙂
