Anyone tried DHEA supplements?

I have ordered some DHEA supplements but it seems to have mixed reviews. I have low testosterone and my DHEA-S is on the low side of normal and SHBG is high. So I am thinking it would be good to give it a go?

I have had 2 failed FETs recently and now back to egg retrieval again at some point.
I have also had 2 miscarriages at 8 and 12 weeks.

I'm a bit nervous of taking it and don't currently have a doctor I can ask but it sounds like I fit the bill for it potentially being helpful. It would be great if anyone with some knowledge about it would share their wisdom!
Thanks in advance.

I found it really helpful. My FSH was high and my AMH low, but I managed to produce decent quality eggs after DHEA. I bought it online from biovea after a dr recommended it.

Sorry, should say, we got 2 embryos from that round and they both resulted in live births. I don't know if it was the DHEA for sure, but it didn't harm our chances.

@caffelattetogo that's good to know, thanks!

Hi ladies,

I know this thread is from a few months ago but I’m hoping to hear some experiences using DHEA prior to egg retrieval/IVF.

After a very bleak 1st retrieval (only 5eggs retrieved, 4 mature)…my fertility consultant said he wants me to take DHEA 3x a day, 25mg (75mg total per day), before moving ahead with a 2nd retrieval.

At first I was like “yeah, sure if you think that’s what’s best, no problem”…but after reading some conflicting reviews on benefits of DHEA I’m really concerned that consultant asked me to take without even doing any blood work.

what are your thoughts on it? Did you know your testosterone and DHEA-S levels prior to start taking this supplement? Do you think it made a difference?

thanks in advance!

Hi, I took it for 3 months before egg retrieval and got 14 mature eggs and am now 28 weeks pregnant, difficult to know if it was the dhea or not but I would do it again!

I got tests for dhea s and testosterone on medichecks and self prescribed the dhea. From the looks of it it rarely does harm and if your consultant was happy for you to go on it then I am sure he is not worried.
If you want the reassurance maybe get the tests done with medichecks?

Thanks for your feedback @FlapJackered and congratulations on your little bundle.

I have ordered the DHEA and am thinking of taking it but was just a bit upset/concerned that fertility consultant recommended this without any bloodwork done prior.

I know my testosterone and DHEA-S levels back from June because I privately did some bloodwork before starting fertility treatments. My consultant never checked these levels or saw these exams I’ve done prior though.

I’ve decided I will take it, and then a month prior to my next retrieval (in February) do some blood work again to see if my levels are within good parameter for retrieval and determine personally if I should lower the dosage before going ahead.

let’s hope I get good numbers like you. Did you manage to keep any others frozen?

After going on DHEA I conceived naturally within 2 months after a failed found of IVF. I don't know if it was the DHEA but it didn't harm.

Hi all, can you share the link to where to purchase please? I looked on Amazon and can see DHEA supplements for men but not for women? Thanks!

caffelattetogo · 01/12/2023 23:51

I got mine from Biovea too.

Hi all. I have 3 unopened bottles of DHEA which I no longer need. Feel free to DM me if you'd like them. Good luck everyone with your fertility journey.

Hopesandsunshine · 01/02/2024 23:27

Hi everyone, have been self medicating with DHEA as I got my test done privately which shows I may benefit due to low levels and have been taking 25mg x 3 a day for three weeks so I’ve ordered another test to check my levels.

i have low AMH, don’t get many eggs (3-4 max) and have trouble with fertilisation from the get go assuming because of my egg quality.

its reassuring to know that it has worked for some people @FlapJackered hope you’re doing well and thank you for the update and congratulations by the way!

how did everyone else get on with DHEA supplementing? I have to admit I feel really good taking it, lots of energy and focus which is good 👍🏽

hoping to start cycle 2 of 3 in Feb if I get the go ahead. Will keep everyone posted :)

Kp8485 · 20/12/2024 17:09

Did anyone have success with the DHEA after 3 failed cycles I have started to tke this week?

ivfjourneyandme · 20/12/2024 20:29

I have just been recommended DHEA after a total failed fertilisation. Willing to try anything
