Egg Donor IVF in Spain

Ivfnewbie1 · 12/03/2023 20:50

Hi everyone!!

We are looking into going to Spain for IVF using donor eggs. I am 39 yrs old and had a recent Amh result of 6.1 with 12 follicles. We have had 1 round of ivf (nhs) we had 1 A grade which resulted in a positive test but we sadly had a mc at 6 weeks. We have no more Frosties and are now paying for our next cycle. As it's our only cycle we will do (cost reasons) I want to have the very best chance of having our own family and have decided that our best improved chances would be with a donor. We are looking at Spain due to UK donor shortage. Clinics we are looking at are Instituto Bernabeu and Reproclinic. Has anyone had any treatment with these clinics at all? Biscuit

No experience of this but your amh result really really isn't very low and you're the right side of 40. In your shoes I'd definitely be giving it a go with my own eggs. I'm sure you know that donor conception comes with a lot of additional cost and complexity ethically and legally.

I've had 3 kids via ivf in my mid to late 30s and amh was never great, neither was blastocyst quality. Good luck whatever you decide.

Not those two but I'm currently in my 2ww with IVF-Life in Alicante. They have been really great, I would rate them 9/10 for communication and 10/10 for their general care and the way they look after me. :)

Thank you :-) how often did you have to go to Spain? Was there also a waiting list for a donor

@Ivfnewbie1 as mine is embryo, no waiting list (these are donated by people who've finished their families so are already in their freezers). I think there's a waiting list for egg only, but it isn't very long. My doctor said they have a lot of donors, and as I understand it most will be "egg sharing", that is, they get a discount going through IVF for themselves and share the eggs with you in return.

I've been three times in total. Once for an initial consult (they can do this online if you prefer not to travel but you have to arrange scans and tests yourself... plus I wanted to go there and meet them in person). Then once for each transfer.

I used IB Alicante for DE IVF and they were excellent. Very thorough (which can be frustrating when you're keen to get on with it!), high standards, great patient care/communication and I really feel they look after donors well/don't overpump them with hormones which is bad for donor's health. Also they have lots of donors so there's no wait list.

I got 12 eggs, 4 good quality blastocysts and my 2 transfers have resulted in 2 beautiful healthy children. I would certainly recommend them although your AMH and AFC don't seem so bad for your age. When I was 33 my AMH was 0.1 and AFC 1 at best. Fully appreciate that the finances make it difficult to try again with your own eggs. Good luck!

@Ivfnewbie1
I echo what everyone else is saying regarding your AMH!
Personally I wouldn't give up on your own eggs just yet. Even a grade A++ donor embryo isn't guaranteed to stick. I've known 2 friends that have had failed transfers from PGT-A perfect eggs.
Good luck in whatever decision you make xx

@Ivfnewbie1 was this decision hard for you to go with donor eggs? I think your AMH is not that low. I'm currently trying with my own eggs and my amh is 1.8 only. ( currently on our 3rd ivf with 2 blastocysts.. atm 1st blast 2ww)
Looks like you've had a good amount of follicles. Outcome was heartbreaking but you got very far as many people have to try few times before they have positive test... maybe few tweaks and you could have more blastocysts next time.
Good luck on your journey

Have you ever consider about North Cyprus? They have very high success rate, and also very affordable. If you need any information I can help.

Hi guys

sorry to jump on this but can I ask what units you’re all measuring amh in? Is it pmol/L or ng/ml ?

my amh is 6.8pmol/L or 0.9ng/ml - how low is that? We are considering whether ivf is worth it with own eggs or better with donor eggs. Grateful for any insight…

@maxandru it is measured in pmol - your result is in norm!
Mine was on low side 1.8 and I'm currently 13 weeks pregnant using my own eggs! Good luck

Hi ladies,
@Ivfnewbie1 very interested to know what you've decided to do... did you go with your own eggs or go to Spain at the end?
@Neyno would you mind sharing your experience on going to North Cyprus? Did you use donor eggs as well?
We are coming to the crossroad of considering donor eggs after 4 unsuccessful rounds of IVF in the UK (incl. one mc at 11 weeks...) currently being open minded about going abroad given the cost factor and availbility of donors...
Thank you and good luck to those who are still trying to make their way through this journey
