High prolactin and cancelled IVF cycle

Hi ladies, looking for some advice.

After many bumps in my IVF journey, the latest is a cancelled cycle (right before starting) due to my prolactin blood test results coming back high (according to medichecks the normal range is 102-496, with my results 655). The consultant has advised we delay treatment and I have the tests redone in 3-4 weeks. I'm awaiting a call with my consultant, but was wondering if anyone had experienced this before, knew of how this could be lowered, can medication be prescribed? Any info would be so much appreciated x

Hi, @Jx3303 !
I had very high prolactin level to (mine was once over 1400). I was prescribed Bromocriptin and every time my prolactin levels dropped back to normal within 10-14 days. It can drop naturally too, but my clinic didn’t want to wait. My Dr. explained that prolactin levels can be really unstable and are often related to high stress level. I although have hypothyroidism, so with prolactin my tsh was elevated too - had to take a higher dose of medication. Really difficult not to stress when you are going through IVF…
Wish you good luck and hope your prolactin level will go down to normal soon! 😊

@VO27 thank you so much for your response, I really appreciate it! I'm sorry to hear that you had high levels too, I had read it was linked to TSH so when I got those results back and they were normal I naively hoped the prolactin would be too. After having our cycle cancelled after one scan last month, now this, the set backs are disappointing. I really hope I can have a call with my consultant today and get a prescription, rather than just leave it and hope it goes down, as I know that will just stress me more!! 🙈 thank you so much, I wish you luck and love on your journey wherever you are too ❤️ xx

@Jx3303 hi, I’m currently taking cabergoline as my prolactin has been as high as 1600, I’ve been taking the meds for about 3 years and now levels are good. The initial meds got me back to normal within a few months but you should be ok as your only slightly over the limit. I was made to wait a few months to see if it resolves itself all the while waiting month after month to start IVF. It never did return to normal alone.
Good luck in your journey x

@SH998 thank you so much for the info! Added waiting on top of general ivf waiting is such a pain! I am really hoping the Consultant recommends medication, I don't want to just wait it out and see! I'm on a 3 cycle package and have so far only managed one full cycle back in November (after 2 failed nhs cycles) and now it's problem after problem! Sending you best wishes on wherever you are in your journey xxx
