Brown discharge one week before period - every month!!

Hi all, please bare with as I’m new here and part of the worst gang ever.

we have been TTC for two years with no benefit, GP has referred us to fertility clinic but we know due to circumstances we won’t get any nhs-funded treatments.

what I’ve noticed over the last few months since I started properly tracking my cycles again is that I seem to ovulate every month, one week after ovulation I have watery brown discharge for a week before my period.

this month I didn’t get peak ovulation until day 22 and day 24 I’ve got the brown discharge 😓

im really hoping this may be hormone related and fertility clinic can give us a seemingly straightforward fix (trying to be optimistic!) but has anybody else had this symptom?!

mamy thanks for any help!

Hi! I get this too!
I've never really thought much of it and not had it looked into, but thinking about it, it could be something to do with your progesterone levels during the luteal phase.
Whilst waiting for your fertility referral, it might be worth looking into ways to naturally boost your progesterone in that stage.
Look at seed cycling.. I've attached a pic.
Are you taking TTC supplements? Multivitamins?
Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin C promote progesterone production.

Progesterone might not be the issue though, but it's worth a try. Has your GP done a day 21 blood test?

I have this. There have been a few threads around where it’s been discussed, all with different outcomes (try searching luteal phase bleeding or spotting, sorry I can’t remember the exact titles).

For some people it causes no problems and others have issues conceiving. For me, we never really got to the bottom of it. Blood tests showed slightly low progesterone but despite taking tablets for 6 months, which did stop the spotting, I didn’t conceive. I did an IVF cycle after trying for +3yrs which resulted in DS in 2020. I am now 32 weeks pregnant with DS2 who was conceived naturally. When af returned after DS1, the spotting also returned. However I didn’t have any spotting the month I conceived DS2, it was the first symptom!

I would suggest going for testing and seeing if it throws anything up and taking it from there. My Drs were always confident that the spotting wasn’t the reason why I struggled to conceive.

Hi,

I had this, it was like brown old period blood mixed with grit, like it had a mottly appereance (sorry for tmi). Turned out I had chocolate cysts and endometriosis, it took us 4 years to conceive our now 5 year old who I am now beginning to think was a total fluke after surgery to remove it. We've just found out all our frozen eggs we had didnt survive thaw or didnt grow (39 and 40 at retireval) during our latest IVF and can't afford to do anymore sadly so he will likely be our only.

Another one coming on to say it may be endometriosis, even if you don’t think you have many symptoms or much pain.
