Inositol for egg quality

Hi all

Just putting this here in case anyone searches for threads about inositol for egg quality because I did exactly that a few months ago and couldn’t find much!

Myself and DH have just completed cycle 5 of ivf (icsi) The last two cycles were to batch before we do any more transfers. I’ve had difficulty maturing my eggs. It Starts with the Egg says that inositol may be helpful for this but still wasn’t sure as I know it’s generally geared at women with PCOS, which I don’t have. But then I came across an ultimate health pack from Zita West ahead of our Fourth cycle and was interested to find that inositol powder was included in this, so I started taking it.

What happened next is that I started to experience periods of lightheadedness. These were new for me and became daily and would last about 5 mins at a time. As I wasn’t doing anything else drastically different, because the rest of the supplements included in the pack were versions of what I’ve previously taken anyway, I began to think it might be the inositol. That round I did have a good response and managed to mature 7 eggs and 6 fertilised, but we ended up having a lower rate of blasts than we usually would - one day 6 4BB. I got my testosterone tested shortly after and it was v low, just about the borderline for normal. The whole reason inositol is given to people with PCOS is because of its ability to lower testosterone, which is why I haven’t taken it before, but given that Zita west include it in their pack which they recommend for everyone it got me thinking that perhaps it was the magic pill that we are all searching for!! Decided not to take DHEA or anything, just stopped taking the inositol hoping my testosterone levels would naturally rise again a bit. After a week all the lightheadedness stopped and although I didn’t get my testosterone checks again so cannot be sure they have risen my 5th cycle, which was three months later, was much improved - 9 mature eggs of which 7 matured and we got two top quality and one lower quality blast to freeze. I really do feel now that there’s a good chance the inositol impacted things for me for round 4, so just wanted to share in case any other non pcos ivffers are considering it!

Thanks for posting this. I read this yesterday and then did a bit of googling- I only started inositol a few weeks ago so have now stopped taking it, hopefully it won't have done anything bad already! Good luck with ttc 😊
