Advice please - cold before embryo transfer

Hi all, I've got myself in a bit of a worry so would appreciate some thoughts on this! We've been TTC for 3 years, diagnosed with unexplained infertility, finally got our NHS funded round and were told yesterday that we have 11 day 3 embryos (8 good quality 3 average). Assuming (fingers crossed!) one gets to blastocyst, embryo transfer is booked for Monday. Unfortunately today I've woken up with a rotten cold (not covid - I've tested). No fever but coughing, runny nose, exhausted. I really really don't want to cancel, but is that what they're going to advise tomorrow if I'm no better? 😭

When I was unwell and they called to ask if I wanted my frozen embryos thawed for transfer, they specifically asked me if I had a temperature.

In hindsight, although I didn’t have a temp, I was pretty unwell and I wish I had delayed as I didn’t get a positive, and I will always wonder if being poorly was the reason.

Wishing you luck in your fertility journey.

Thanks for your reply! I don't have a fever, just feeling grotty. Logically I know that if there's any chance it could negatively affect the outcome then we should postpone, but we're so close after all this time that it's hard to face another delay. The irony is I never get sick, this is my first cold for years!

@Msrivia did you go ahead with the transfer? Mine is Thursday and I’m not feeling well, I think it’s just a cold, I called the clinic who said they would go ahead with a cold - only covid would stop transfer.

@Msrivia try not to panic but follow the advice of your clinic no matter how much it might not be the news you want to hear.
Better to freeze and delay implantation than risk a precious embryo not taking because of something so simple as waiting a few more weeks.
You'll always wonder if it was your cold if you go ahead and it doesn't work xx

Hi @NorthernDuckling , I did go ahead - I actually felt a lot better the morning of the transfer so was glad I hadn't put it off. Sadly it wasn't a successful round but I don't think the cold had anything to do with it. If your clinic aren't worried and you feel well enough to go in then I personally would go for it. Very best of luck!

@Msrivia thanks for getting back to me and I’m sorry your transfer wasn’t successful. This will be our 3rd and I just want to get it over with now, it would feel really frustrating to cancel now having done all the scans, bloods, taken the meds etc. I guess it’s a bit of luck what ever you do. I’ve done a bit of Googling and there is a small amount of evidence that a cold might help implantation because your immune system is fighting it instead of the embryo.
