NHS IVF referral confusion

Wondering if someone could clear the confusion I have with the referall process we have faced.

My partner and I have different doctors. He has azoospermia so has just been refered to Birminghams women's hospital (he already has had 2 SA at good hope). I told my doctor my partner was refered to BWH but for some reason he has refered me to Good Hope Hospital, which although have a fertility unit do not offer IVF.

  1. Wondering if this is going to be an issue us both at different hospitals??

  2. Ive been refered to Good Hope who don't offer IVF. Will they just do the check ups then after I get to choose my fertility clinic to have IVF after all checks done or is expected Good Hope will do the IVF even though they don't offer it??

  3. I was refered 2 months ago, am I better just waiting for Good Hope or ask for a new referall so I'm at the same clinic as my partner?

They are broadly all part of the same hospital group so it's not unusual to be sent to different hospitals for tests - is your doctors in the same CCG? I'm pretty sure when they make the referral they get a list of where it can be sent (I recall asking my GP at the time to pick certain ones based on wait list and location) - I've been seen across Women's, heartlands and good hope. The systems are linked so they'll be able to see the results on them no matter where they were done. For some of the more routine tests given the number of people needing them done these days and the backlog to clear it's easier to get them done at one of the smaller hospitals like Good Hope so as not to take up resource at Womens

I'd imagine your husband has now been bumped to Women's in preparation for discussions around IVF - once you've had your tests and results then you'll be called to Womens to discuss moving forward

(One of my children has health issues and i can get appointments at any one of the 3)
