Fetus testing after miscarriage

Hi

I recently had a missed miscarriage where baby stopped developing around 9 weeks, this is our 4th miscarriage altogether (2nd MMC) so we were able to send off the fetus that I passed for analysis testing with NHS.
Just wondering has anyone had this and what kind of things do they test for as the midwife I spoke to didn’t seem to really know?

Does anyone know - Will we get to know the gender ? Do they test DNA for abnormal chromosomes? Can they do an autopsy of a 9 weeks old fetus ?

If anyone has any advice to any questions I would be really appreciative so I know what kinda things to expect ? They said it could take up to 8 weeks to hear back ?

Hello@hopefullsosbry I had this and yes I was able to find out the gender. In my case they did find chromosome issues - trisomy 18 and some issue with chromosome 13. I hope you get some answers soon.

Hi, thanks for sharing .. sorry you went through this, it’s so difficult. How many weeks was the baby if you if you don’t mind me asking ? I hope we find out the gender as I would love to know .. also if you don’t mind me asking what age you were ? I am 40 and wondering if my eggs are all just ‘passed it’ 😕 thanks again xx

hi @hopefullsosbry I’m 42 just and had the missed miscarriage at 41 (my third consecutive since turning 40 if I count an early one at 5 weeks). I’m told on average 90% of eggs ant my age are past it and I’m doing ivf and pgta to find the good embryo. So far Pgt-a on 2 embryos has found single chromosome abnormalities.
Have you got your period back? That definitely gives some closure.

I wasn’t sure whether to do the PGT testing we might if we go ahead with another cycle, we still have one last blast to try then we will think about another cycle maybes and then do genetic testing with any blasts we get .. my bleeding from miscarriage has literally just stopped, all began to come away on the 7th so only 10 days ago 😔.. so not had my next period yet .. I have my scan tomorrow to check all has passed and no bits are left in .. then we will continue to try naturally and have a break from transfers for a few months , put in the last frosty in the 2nd half of the year I think ?! In a way j am desperate to just put the last one in but I want more tests 1st as don’t want to ‘waste’ it incase something is flagged up on further tests.
