Hi please can someone tell me what the drop off rate is from day 3-5 I keep seeing it’s either 30-50% please can someone advise I’m petrified! I have 8 currently fertilised on day 3.

You can expect 30-50% drop from collection to fertilisation and then another 30-50% drop to viable day 5 embryo. The highest drop off rate is between day 3-5, you don't usually get much (if any) drop off between 1-3. If you have 8 fertilised you've got a good chance of having at least 1 viable embryo for transfer, probably more, unless there is something else going on which is unknown and causes them to stop developing. Good luck!

Thanks, sorry atleast 1? Is this likely???

I went from 10 fertilised, 9 embryos at day 3, to 2 embryos at day 5/6.

The drop off is brutal. We're both aged 28 too so should have good quality eggs/sperm theoretically.

HB1982 · 13/01/2023 19:25

Thanks @blueskies94 did they tell you what quality they were at on Day 3?

They didn't tell me the quality on day 3, but ended up with 4AB and 3BB. The 4AB fresh transfer didn't work so fingers crossed for the 3BB next month.

I've seen loads of people with much better drop off rates than me though- does seem to be luck of the draw. Wish you all the best luck!

MGee123 · 13/01/2023 19:59

No one can tell you what your drop off rate will be unfortunately. I said at least 1 because that is obviously the minimum number to have a chance of success with your cycle! Yes 1 is a possibility but I can't tell you how likely it is. Grading at day 3 is not an indicator of where they will be at day 5. One of my poor looking embryos on day 3 was the only one viable for transfer on day 5 (still not great grading at that point but did result in a successful pregnancy). I hope it goes well for you, I remember how nerve wracking those days were.

Phrenologistsfinger · 13/01/2023 22:09

We usually go from 8 fertilised to 2 day 5/6 embryos.

Mickey12345 · 13/01/2023 23:13

my wife managed to get 7 eggs, she has endo on cysts and I have low all round sperm. We had ICSI, I think only 5 were mature eggs and of those, 2 were not resilient to the Intracytoplasmic and subsequently left with 3 fertilised. All three Got to blast at top quality; not sure of grade, but they struggled to chose which to put back in. Suffice to say baby is due any moment as we are at 35 weeks. So will reiterate you could end up with 8 blasts or even less who knows.

Morning all, I know this is an old thread but hoping someone will see and reply. I was wondering what your actual drop off rate was from 3/5 days? I have my transfer booked tomorrow and had 8 embryos on my 3 day call.

Phrenologistsfinger · 24/02/2023 10:15

Mine has been over 4 rounds respectively:

Day 3 6/4/8/8 to day 5/6 1/2/2/2

Phrenologistsfinger · 24/02/2023 10:16

Seems like 2 is our limit however many fertilise!

SH998 · 24/02/2023 10:26

@Phrenologistsfinger , thanks for the reply, I've heard approx. 50%. My last round went from day 3 having 4 to day 5 having 2 so in my experience approx. 50% but always good to hear from others :)

Izzie94x · 24/02/2023 14:35

@SH998 it really depends, I remember writing the exact post at the time lol. We had 5 embryos fertilise and I was so so nervous we’d get none to day 5. Lo and behold, all 5 embabies made it to day 5, top quality blasts 💞 we were very very lucky. Worked first round, and 4 in the freezer x

SH998 · 24/02/2023 17:17

@Izzie94x wow that’s amazing, congrats. I hope I’m as lucky as you 🤞🏼x

HB1982 · 24/02/2023 20:25

@Izzie94x did you do PGTA testing?x

OP posts:
SantoPalo · 24/02/2023 22:03

8 eggs collected during last round. I had 5 fertilise, all went to day 5, one was transferred and now my DS, 3 frozen. 1 didn't make it to day 6 to freeze or wasn't good enough quality to freeze, can't remember fully but was along those lines
I was on a low dose short protocol

summerpoolandsun · 25/02/2023 00:43

We had ‘unexplained infertility’. Everything looked fine on paper.

On my second round I got 15 eggs, 12 fertilised, 6 looked good at day 3, then at day 5 we got 1 blastocyst 4BB

I was disappointed. We PGTA tested as we had had a miscarriage on our first round with a 4AA. That was our only blastocyst out of 14 eggs. We didn’t want to go through another transfer without knowing the genetics despite only having one again. It came back normal. I still wasn’t confident as we were just used to everything going wrong. Currently 24 weeks pregnant and can’t believe how lucky we’ve been 🤞🤞🤞never thought it would happen to tell you the truth but that old cliche it only takes one is really true

SH998 · 25/02/2023 06:05

@summerpoolandsun @SantoPalo thanks both, it’s always good to hear from others and their experiences. Not long now until I find out 🤞🏼 x

Hopefull1981 · 25/02/2023 08:23

We had 10 fertilise, 7 on day 3 and ended up with 7 frozen all of varying quality. Good luck op.

SH998 · 25/02/2023 11:11

@Hopefull1981 thanks for the feedback, just home now. We managed 5 blastocysts which I’m absolutely over the moon about x

Izzie94x · 25/02/2023 13:29

@SH998 ahh 5 blasts is absolutely amazing!!!🤍

@HB1982 no we didn’t! We have MFI and are only 28, so our clinic said they didn’t think it was completely necessary. If it had failed, I think we’d have opted too! But we just took the risk and were very lucky. Obviously a lot can change when defrosting the embryos, so we’ll play it by ear if we decide we want another little miracle. We always wanted 2, but right now I’m just so so grateful for 1 healthy baby xx

Hopefull1981 · 25/02/2023 15:51

Congrats on your 5 blasts. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

summerpoolandsun · 25/02/2023 17:04

Wow, amazing! Congrats
