IVF w/ ICSI Failing

Hi,

My partner and I are doing IVF with ISCI. We also need to do pre-implantation genetic testing, as we are both carriers of a genetic issue.

We've completed one cycle, retrieved 5 eggs, 4 were fertilized, 1 developed successfully, then it had the genetic issue so had to be discarded.

We're in the middle of our second cycle, retrieved 10 eggs yesterday, 2 were fertilized... and now I am worried that none of the two will develop successfully OR they will have the genetic issue.

I am very disappointed, given that ISCI is supposed to increase our chances of fertilization but everything seems to be so low.

I would really love advice on what questions to ask the doctor to better understand what specifically is causing these issues with ICSI? It's so hard to figure out...

Hi @ordinarydan, we had really poor fertilisation rates with ICSI which was very disappointing as we thought that was the answer. The next step for us is Artificial Oocyte Activation (AOA) so that might be something to look into and ask your clinic about. Good luck.

Ordinarydan, could you please tell how do you know tht you and your partner have genetic issues? Did you do any tests before ivf to confirm it? Or it's on the basis of PGT results?

@Londong yeah that's right, we did PGT testing before IVF because my partner knew she was a carrier for something. Lucky we did it, as I am a carrier for the same thing!

Have you done a proper analysis of the Sperm - what is the count and level of DNA fragmentation?
