Massive drop off between egg collection and day 3

Wondering if anyone has experienced something similar. I’m 34, DH is 36, unexplained infertility and it’s our first round of ivf (our only NHS funded round). I had my egg collection on Monday where they collected 40 eggs (!) — I’m doing a freeze all because of high risk of ohss.

Of the 40, only 21 fertilised and I’ve just received the day 3 call where they said that ‘the embryos aren’t dividing like we’d hope.’ Apparently we only have 4 embryos that look good and 3-4 that are significantly lagging behind. I’m absolutely gutted and so worried that we’ll finish this round with nothing :(

Has anyone experienced such a huge drop off? I assume there’s an egg quality issue, but the high number of eggs + low fertilisation/development has really thrown me. Let me know if you’ve experienced anything similar or have any words of wisdom

Hi, i had 30 eggs collected and had 5 left at the point of freezing! I developed ohss. It was a bit of a shock to us too but trying to remain positive! Ready to continue the journey early next year! Good luck to you too :)

I have pcos and my partner has low morphology. In my first round I had 23 eggs and developed mild ohss. There was a massive drop off on day 3 -16 fertilised and there were only 4 left. Of that four I had one d5 blastocyst who is now my 17 month old baby boy . It's so hard but don't give up hope yet! Good luck x

Heya
I know it’s very disheartening isn’t it. We had 14 collected, 12 mature, 11 fertilised, 5 left on day 3 and only 2 made it to day 5. We know we have male factor but the day 3 drop suggests my egg quality might be poor as well. Probs my age of 37.. and the two haven’t got the best grade either. Our 4BB didn’t make it in a fresh transfer and just had our last one put in with a 5BC grade which statistically haven’t got the best chances. Time will tell
Did you have your day 5 call @BlueMountains5 ? I hope you have a few good quality embryos left x

Thank you so much for your responses - I can’t tell you how much it helped me today while I was waiting for the day 5 update! I really took your comment to heart @Pebble43 and tried to stay hopeful.

We just heard that all 4 of our day 3 embryos made it and have been frozen. I’m so incredibly relieved. What a rollercoaster this week/whole process has been! And we’re not even at the transfer stage yet. Sending you all the best@Honeybunie - I hope this embryo is the one!

@CLOLOU94 Looks like I’ll be continuing the journey in the new year too! Hoping to do a FET in Jan.

Thank you all again for your lovely words of encouragement. They helped so much today x
