NHS initial fertility appointment and BMI

Hi all, I have my initial fertility appointment today (4pm), I’ve worked so hard to get my BMI under 30 (29.7 this morning) but I’m so worried that adding clothes and having anything to eat or drink will push me over 30. Does anyone know if they take this into account and whether they would do initial tests if my BMI is 30?
also any tips to keep off 0.5kg for a day would be really welcome!!

Thanks!

Good luck! Wear your lightest clothes, make sure you take off any removable layers and take your shoes off! Stand as tall and straight as you can for the height measurement, too.

I remember I would get so stressed about fertility clinic appointments that I wouldn't be able to eat those days due to anxiety. Remember to keep trying to drink water though even if you can't face anything else - staying hydrated is important.

Wear your lightest clothes!

I ended up weighing outfits. I had a bmi check yesterday and ended up wearing my lightest floaty dress and tights.

I’ll be honest. The GP and clinic during my journey didn’t take the fact that I was wearing clothes into account at all. Hence me weighing clothes on my kitchen scales!!!

Don't worry too much. If it is roughly around 30 and it has come down, they know that you are working on it and are almost there.

I would be shocked if they refused you if your BMI was 30.2 or something and it was very clear that you had been losing weight.

Thank you guys!! Tips were very helpful, wore my lightest clothes and was freezing but it worked! BMI was 28.9 in the end, Dr said it was fine for treatment but warned me about gaining weight and advised I lost some. All part of the journey. Thanks again!

@StaffordLou well done! I know how stressful this is! I’ve had the same conversation with multiple doctors/consultants about keeping my weight down.

What I would say, is when you’re waiting and it feels like nothing is happening don’t give up. I did, my diet went to pot and I’ve ended up fluctuating between 30.2 and 29.5 for the past year and a half. Which has made BMI appointments a bit of a nightmare!

Have you had bloods yet? Or was this for a referral to fertility clinic?

And again, well done!!! I know how hard it is!!!
