Day after ET and TSH too high - devastated

Can anyone help me not to panic. Just had an embryo transfer yesterday and had the results back from a thyroid test and my TSH has shot up to 4.58 from under 1 in august.
Feeling devastated and stupid for not getting it checked earlier. I was thinking I would increase my dose tonight by 25mcg and call the doctors tomorrow.
I have a history of miscarriages and feeling like such an idiot and like I have completely messed this cycle up. 😢

Right 🤦‍♀️ calming down now, after doing some research TSH increases when you're on estrogen and progesterone. So it should go back down when I finish the cycle.
Definitely shouldn't of tested in the middle of a FET....note to anyone in the same position.
Now I am worried I have done damage by having a total meltdown about my TSH level. 🙈😵‍💫

Good luck!

Hey, I don't know anything about TSH but if estrogen and progesterone elevate it then it's quite normal it should be elevated.

And don't worry about freaking out, if stress truly was such a big factor no one doing IVF would ever get pregnant, not to mention war zones, rape victims, etc. It will work or it won't but either way it won't be anything you've done/not done.

I know it's easier said than done but for me having other projects and keeping busy has made this last cycle so much easier ! Because I have other things to look forward to I don't spend my time counting the days, and as a result it all goes a lot quicker. We had to postpone ET due to OHSS and I thought another month would feel like forever but actually it's flown and we're looking at ET probably end of next week or beginning of the week after.

And don't be too hard on yourself, IVF and pregnancy is just a freaking out fest from beginning to end.

Thanks @Jadviga very wise words, I am sure you're right. It's just so hard not to overanalyse everything! It's our last decent quality embryo so I just felt like I had wasted it, such a horrible feeling. Lots of distractions now!

Best of luck for your transfer! I hope it all goes smoothly for you.🤞

@FlapJackered
hey just came across this and I am in a similar situation. Always TSH less that 1.5 and did my TSH 2 days before transfer and it’s come back at 6. I was just wondering if you increased your thyroxine dose and if your doctor told anything at all?
good luck with the transfer 🤞🤞🤞

Hi, yes I have upped my dose by 50mcg after the doctors recommendation and I have another test booked in for 2 weeks time. The doc didn't say anything about the estrogen messing with it but I am sure that is what has caused it. He was very surprised it has gone up as I am on a high dose already.
I found this study which shows it should come back down. 🤞

Best of luck to you too! When is your OTD? X

I’m pretty sure you estrogen messes with the TSH. As I have had quite a few FET in the past and everytime I started on estrogen my TSH would be more than 3 and normally it’s less than 1.5.
I’ve not yet started taking thyroxine but have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and let’s see what he says and will let you know.
My fresh transfer is on Wednesday. When is your OTD? How are you feeling Xx

Fox01 · 18/04/2023 18:07

@FlapJackered is there any update to how you got on?

FlapJackered · 18/04/2023 20:34

It failed unfortunately. I had another FET after this and that failed too though so probably didn't have anything to do with my TSH. Probably me having a meltdown about it caused more problems!
The drugs definitely do effect TSH though so I upped it before starting with the last one and closely monitored it.
I have to do a full round now but I think if I do another FET in the future I will go with an unmedicated cycle for that reason.
