IUI 2023

Hi everyone! I saw that there was a IUI 2022 thread so creating a... IUI 2023 thread for those of you starting in January or after!

I am going to be 36 in February and my boyfriend as well, we have been trying for 8 months and did some checks by curiousity in September and found out that he has a low sperm count (he repeated the test and the 2nd one was low again) so we got referred to a fertility specialist.

On my side, so far so good, ovulation is happening every month, I had a 3D Hycosy which showed no abnormality, tubes are all clear, blood tests showed no hormonal issues. I have slightly short cycles (25 days) but my AMH blood test (18) and Follicle counts (18 too) were normal according to the doctor.

We decided to go private through the CRGH to avoid the waiting times and because their success rates are higher, and our Doctor suggested that we try 3 cycles of IUI (medicated with stimulation) and then move to IVF if IUI doesn't work for us.

He said that 3 cycles of IUI will mean around 45% chances of success (15% per cycle) and IVF (1 cycle with 1 fresh transfer and 2 / 3 frozen transfers) will have 85% chances of success.

Next step for us is to do all the screenings requested by the CRGH (thyroid antibodies, virology, rubella, STIs etc) and we are hoping to start our first cycle of IUI in January! (We could have started in December but have travel plans in December so we decided to keep these and go away for a bit, before getting into the madness of fertility treatments)

Hi, not doing IUI but ICSI, but same as you DH has sperm issues also. We are both 38. We were offered to start this month but decided to go in January. It will be our second round. It's a rollercoaster ride that's for sure! We are currently with the NHS. January will be here before we know it!

Good luck 🤞 Please do share with us how did it go ? hopefully you both have a little one to play with soon :)

Londongirl87 · 28/11/2022 10:31

Good luck to you too @HopefullyBePregnantViaIUI !

And @Alfe are you going through IUI or IVF too? Thank you for the kind words :-) Actually your messaged made me a bit tearful because it made me realise that I never think of us as potentially future parents. The whole fertility process is such a rollercoaster that I struggle to see beyond it :-)

On our side, we've done all the virology and STIs screenings last week, and have an appointment with the nurse this Wednesday to talk about the details of the treatment plan. We will be doing IUI with 'super-ovulation' which apparently means injections of Gonal-F / Menopur.

Have a lovely week everyone!

i had two IVF treatments but unfortunately it failed , but never thought of doing IUI , but when I searched about IUI and read about it as it can benefit couples who are trying from years. Searched on mumsnet.com and seen your post, i would love to become a mother too but let’s see if it’s in destiny 😢

Alfe · 28/11/2022 18:11

Please do let us know how the process is done in what stages and is this your first IUI? Do you have irregular periods? Are you taking any medicine too for ovulation as you’ve mentioned about ‘ super ovulation’

Londongirl87 · 29/11/2022 12:45

Hello @Alfe ! I have regular periods (25-26 days, a bit short but nothing terrible) and I ovulate normally. The issue on our side is my partner who has a low sperm count (but not disastrous either).
IUI is usually good for unexplained infertility. Do you know where your infertility comes from? I believe they must have identified it since you already had 2 rounds of IVF?
Good luck! I am sure it will happen eventually :-)

@Londongirl87 hey, just come across this post and was interested in how you are getting on?

Londongirl87 · 13/04/2023 18:49

Hi! @thefirstattempt ! Well I actually fell pregnant naturally on that cycle (end of November) and did not need IUI in the end :-) Currently 5 and a half month pregnant, expecting a little girl

Oooh that is amazing news @Londongirl87 congratulations to you!

Hi All just jumping on here as currently on my 3rd donor IUI this year and in the 2ww. We are currently at an NHS clinic, but weighing up going private at this point.

@HopefullyBePregnantViaIUI How have you found GCRM in Glasgow? I hope you've had a BFP from your IUI.
We are thinking of moving to this clinic, but I wondered if you can tell me what follicle tracking they carry out during an assisted cycle? Is it only tracking scans or do they also do bloodwork?

Darma87 · 27/07/2023 22:42

Hello! Anyone on here still doing IUI or planning ?

Just had our consultation with the nurse for our 1st IUI. Been trying for baby no 2 for 18 months. Hycosy all good, AMH 18.6pmol and partners sperm all normal. Bloods tomorrow, then wait until period to get started (or this is the cycle we finally get pregnant 😅).
