High prolactin

Hi everyone,
We have been struggling to conceive for 18 months now and have had my bloods done which flagged up high prolactin. I have been referred for a brain scan. My GP said I may be given dopamine to bring my prolactin level down. Has anyone else had this?

Yes I had an MRI which identified a prolactinoma. I did take medication, I can’t remember exactly what but dopamine sounds familiar. I never had a follow up MRI so I don’t know how effective it was at treating the prolactinoma.

Thanks for replying. Were you TTC when you were on the medication?

Yes we were, we’d been ttc for around 2yrs at that point. Probably not what you want to hear but it wasn’t our magic answer and we ended up having IVF with an unexplained diagnosis. It was successful and I am now pregnant with our second who was conceived naturally.

@shellybon how high is your prolactin? I had high prolactin and when they repeated the test about 6 months later, it was normal. The doctor said stress can cause a fluctuation in prolactin so put it down to that.

@Betsyboo87 congrats on your pregnancies that's lovely news🥰

My prolactin is only slightly too high. I got the impression it is just over the recommended level but I don't know specifics. I also have read that it is related to stress but the issue I have is I hate blood tests so it very well could be down to being nervous beforehand. I have had it tested twice already and both were high. I guess the scan will clear it up whether there is a tumour or not.
