IVF with IMSI Experiences

Hi there,

I was hoping someone else may be able to share experiences of IVF where IMSI was used and what the fertilisation rate was please?

DH and I are about to embark on IVF with PGT-A following 4 consecutive unexplained miscarriages in the space of a year and no obvious reason so that it's put down to age-related poor egg quality. I am currently 42, DH is 35.

The consultant recommended fertilisation via ICSI with IMSI to ensure we obtain as many blasts as possible and the sperms selected are as good quality as they can possibly be although DNA frag and semen analysis did not show male factor issues. The consultant still says that would give us the best possible chance.

I am reading mixed information about IMSI and ICSI as to whether fertilisation rates are actually higher or better than standard IVF. Intuitively I'd expect it to be as only the best quality sperms are injected directly into the egg, but seems it's not as straightforward.

Could anybody share their experiences please?

Thanks

Hello, I didn't have IMSI but had ICSI in August due to severe MFI (varicocele). Normal IVF wouldnt have worked for us as husbands sperm is so few. Fertilisation rate depends on the egg being mature too, we had 7 eggs, all mature and all fertilised, and we got all 7 to day 5. One slowed down on day 5 so wasn't frozen, one was put in fresh and 5 were frozen. First transfer didn't take but currently 4 + 5 with the first frozen transfer and have 4 on ice currently :) I'm 34 and DH is 35. As long as the egg is mature and healthy then ICSI seems to have good rates. Good luck with your round! :)
