Sperm analysis results

Hi All

My husband has just had his first sperm analysis results back from the GP, done at St Thomas’ in London.

He was told over the phone that the count was ‘less than 2 million/ml’ and at that level they don’t do further testing for motility and and morphology.

Hes been told to book another test and if the same we will be being referred.

does this sound right re the lack of further testing for this sample? a quick look on boards here and other people seem to have full results regardless?

I in the mean time need to make an appt with the GP to discuss and arrange blood tests as the referral will have to go through me as the woman.

Feeling pretty upset/devastated tbh. I did suspect as we have been trying a while and I have been pregnant in the past and actually thought this might almost make me feel better to have a bit of certainty and reduce the horror that is the TWW… but I feel like been punched in the face.

Also feeling awful for my husband that Im so upset.

Thanks for reading

Hi OP,

Haven’t got any words of wisdom for you but I know the feeling to be blindsided by results and it’s really crap :(

It does sound unusual to only test count without the others but if it’s one thing Iv learned during my TTC journey it’s that the testing and support available massively varies by area in the UK which is shocking, I’m in the South East.

We had a SA done by the GP as a pre requisite for our fertility referral and all of the above were tested as standard all at the same time.

I’m assuming there wasn’t any reason to suspect count may be an issue and that’s why they only did the count test? Previous surgery or health issues? They do also say to have repeated tests a few months apart as so much can affect the numbers so try not to don’t lose all hope on one test .
