Hi,

I started hormone injections two weeks ago and got inseminated last weds, over the last couple of days my boobs are killing me, they feel like they have grew twice the size and I'm always tired. Did anyone else have this after having IUI?

👋

Any luck? I had similar last month.. all sorts of symptoms but ultimately it was my period symptoms which came on the day I was meant to do the test so there wasn’t really much point in testing as it was clear it didn’t work for me!

but yeah unfortunately many of the symptoms mimic your normal period symptoms so it can be really hard to tell until test day comes unfortunately.

Hey! Yeah same with me, 4 days before the test. Have to miss this cycle and wait until my next as well 😩. How are you doing with it? It's all very go-go-go isn't it? X

Hey hun, I’m so sorry to hear it wasn’t successful. It’s quite disheartening for some reason even though we know the chances are lower than usual.. there is always that glimmer of hope that this is the month!

it seems you have a short cycle… like 24 days? Is that always the case or just this cycle?

Tropicaliyes · 21/10/2022 18:49

I found a website that told you what to expect day to day after the insemination and honestly I sat there looking at it like “ooh I’m day x so I should be feeling blah blah” and ultimately I didn’t feel anything besides what I usually do🙄.

My boobs were hurting and I kept feeling slightly sick and a bit dizzy.. I kept telling myself it was because I felt travel sick on the way there or that I was dehydrated and that it’s my usual period symptoms which they said we would experience regardless but there was also the little piece of hope that it was more than just period!

What I found annoying however is that since I was already convinced it didn’t work out, when the test day came and I was having spotting I knew it had to be period as implantation bleeding wouldn’t have happened so late.. So ultimately I knew my period would start in full the next day so contacted the clinic to ask if they still wanted me to test with their test since I know my period Is here and they still wanted me to test!

I done it anyway and told them it was negative as I had thought and they told me what to do if I wanted my next attempt on the next cycle.

It seemed really pointless them getting me to still test as it gives you a false hope that even though you are currently bleeding it can still be positive.. everything I read said that is not the case and from the start of your period there is no chance of being pregnant. I guess they just wanted it on the record that my test said negative but either way it was quite annoying.

Tbh they are all over the place, sometimes a few days late, sometimes weeks late, sometimes they are regular for months.

Yeah I was the same really sore boobs, exhaustion, really irritated which I am like on my usual cycle but it felt 10x worse, I just thought it was maybe the injections that made it more intense. I did have a tiny bit of bleeding a few days before my period started and was really hopeful that it was implantation bleeding but nope.

Told myself I wouldn't get my hopes up but it is quite hard not to, even though, like you said the chances are quite low.

I'm sorry they asked you to do the test 😔

Have you started the injections again? X

Are they very sure you ovulated at the time they inseminated?

I didn’t have any hormone injections. It’s a completely natural IUI cycle as I don’t have any known fertility issues, just in a Same sex relationship. I hear a lot of people complaining about the side effects of those injections though and they sound horrible 🤦🏽‍♀️.

what are you going to do now? Will you do another cycle or give it a break?

I am now going into day 4 and again started with the hurting boobs today but it’s too early for implantation yet so think this is just my standard boob pain around this time.

trying to be more pragmatic this time and not even trying to look at anything online like I did last time lol. Besides the boobs I don’t feel anything as of yet but I’m meant to test on the 1st which means my period should show up then also so let’s see what this cycle holds.

It indeed is very go-go-go though.. I was told to use the clear blue ovulation predictor with the smiley then insemination the day after.

They aren't as bad as I thought they were going to be, I bruised on my stomach (just on one side which is weird) and it's quite sore when you actually inject the stuff in but it's ok after a while. My boobs were sore the day after I started them and we're for about two weeks after I started them and my mood was all over the place 🤣

I have to phone the clinic the day my period starts then go for a scan the day after so they can measure everything, then I start the injections for a week then back up for another scan to check my ovaries and measure the follicles that have grew and make sure there isn't any more than 2 then if that's ok, I go home and inject the booster which releases the egg(s) then two days I get it done. They struggled to do it the first time, the nurse said my cervix is quite far back and it's tilted (which no one has ever told me before which I find strange with the amount of smears I've had) and that along with my PCOS is more than likely why It hasn't happened naturally.

I had to go back up for my scan on my period and my right ovary (which has been in a slumber for years) has a follicle that has grew quite big so I need to sit this cycle out but to go back up In a few weeks to see if it has shrunk and then go again hopefully.

I never actually took a ovulation test before I got it done, they never told me to🤣 which now seems stupid to me. I will do that the next time.

I hope this time works our for you both ♥️

It for sure doesn’t sound thrilling having to go through that i must say lol.

did they give you a trigger shot? If so then maybe that’s why you didn’t need to do an ovulation test as it will for sure trigger ovulation. Im wondering if they can also determine when ovulation will be from the scans? But then having said that things can get delayed by a day or so..

the boosters sound kind of like a trigger shot however you don’t usually wait 2 days for the insemination as once ovulation is triggered the peak is usually next day which they say lasts for about 24-36 hours or something like that… the unfortunate part about IUI is the use of frozen sperm which shortens the sperm’s life from 5-7 days to 24 hours which is a massive difference.

that is most likely why other clinic methods besides IVF have such a low rate of success.. they have kind of lessened the success rate quite a lot.

the follicle that has grown quite big, why does that mean it cannot be used? Would it contain more than the required amount of eggs or something similar?

Also thank you, I really hope it works this time 🤞

Yeah I have been going through archived posts on mumsnet and have seen a lot of mums to be worry about the potential of miscarrying so I think that must be fairly normal.. I mean anxiety is high right now and this is just another valid anxiety to add lol.

yeah I would really be interested in getting that update from you when you get your positive! I don’t care if the thread goes dead and it’s been years I’m still going to be waiting and hoping you get some success soon (even better if we can go through it together even if it’s very different times!)

Im going to send some positivity and hopefully luck your way and hope it can speed up for you to have your turn soon 🤞

thank you again for your well wishes and being here still to receive my update ☺️
