NHS time scales and private funding

My husband and I had went for some private testing recently and found I have PCOS and he has azoospermia (<1million) and have been advised we will likely need IVF and ICSI. We are eligible for NHS funding, so have been to the GP to discuss results etc and see about a fertility referral.

We have been told we need repeat speed analysis first, but can’t even get an appointment for that! There’s a number to ring, with a voicemail, and they say they are busy and will return calls when they can, but haven’t heard back after several calls. GP doesn’t know waiting times likely for that, or referral after that either. What are peoples experience with this? I’m assuming likely months?!

We are considering if we can afford private or not, what are the most cost effective ways people have found for this? I’ve been looking at the access fertility refund plans, and maybe a 0% credit card to spread paying it off.

How long have you been trying to conceive? It varies healthboard to healthboard but in mine you must be trying a year, even if issues known.

Once we were referred, it was 3mo from referral to initial assessment
