Bleeding at 6 weeks but heartbeat visible

Hi everyone,

I am 6 weeks plus 2 and last night I got really bad pelvic pain, like period style cramping followed by bleeding :( First it was light pink, then dark and then light again and included a large clot. I went to my local hospital who examined me and then did a scan where we could see the baby and also hear the heartbeat. The doctor said it was measuring correctly for my time but had no explanation for the bleeding.

I still have slight cramping and dark blood this morning. I have another scan next week. Has anyone had this and gone on to successfully carry? Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks

I had dark clots and bleeding between 6-9 weeks, there was never any real explanation other than old blood and possibly the progesterone pessaries causing irritation. I am now 25 weeks and baby is healthy and kicking away as we speak. Keep an eye on the bleeding, generally dark blood is ‘old blood’ and not of concern. x

@Sydney1986x thanks for your reply. Yea I just have some dark blood yesterday and this morning but it’s very light. Hoping for the best but very worried

Hey @renovations2022 , the same happened to my friend who is now 17 weeks. She had more bleeding than you, on and off. Doctors think it was some kind of hematoma and got her off work to be safe, so far all is well. Having heard a heartbeat is extremely positive as it shows the pregnancy is developping well so far and whatever caused the bleeding is probably separate from the embryo. Obviously there's no garantee, but I have my fingers crossed for you.

Yes I had a bleed at six weeks and was given progesterone pessaries after until I was out of the first trimester. Had a healthy baby at 37 weeks.

I hope things are still progressing well for you. I had heavy bleeding with clotting at six weeks which the Dr advised was likely to be a sub chorionic heamatoma (sorry can’t recall correct spelling of that). It’s a bleed around the embryo and resolves on its own.
