Hi there, were you put on the antagonist protocol? I should be starting my first cycle soon but am concerned I don’t fully understand why I’ve been given this protocol. I have PCOS with high AMH and on the lower end of of BMI. I’d appreciate any guidance. Thank you

Heya, I'm it short protocol? You would have short with high AMH, and the antagonist hormone is to prevent early ovulation. I had short antagonist too though I have normal AMH but this was because Theresa's a shortage of long protocol drugs and I could do either one with my figures. What drugs and dosages are you having?

@Imisscoffee2021 yup short protocol. someone kindly clarified for me in a different thread that it’s also known as the short protocol. I got confused with the naming conventions! I heard about the shortage of the nasal spray. I find out dosages next week but believe it will be two types of injections, the stims and fyremadel to prevent premature ovulation (prior to HCG injection). Is that what you had?

I'm in that thread too :) Had my first cycle last month, ultimately unsuccessful but have 5 more frozen embryos so going again in a few weeks :)
I had 300 menopur and fyremadel antagonist to suppress LH, then Gonasi as the trigger. The buserilin nasal spray is long protocol where they down regulate your ovaries to induce early menopause almost, then they start them back up again with stims. I was worried about short protocol at first as I had expected to do long with my AMH and our reason for IVF is male factor, so I wanted plenty of eggs, but actually I think the quality is better with short as I got 7 eggs, all mature, all fertilised and all made it to blastocyst :) Keep in touch on the other thread as you go through your journey, we're all at different stages now in that one though we started at around the same time, we all had such different results from our cycles :)

7 eggs all reaching blastocyst is great! ☺️ I’m sorry to hear your fresh cycle wasn’t successful. Fingers crossed for your frozen cycle. I read about higher success rates in frozen cycles due to the impact the stims have on the lining in fresh cycle (I think).

I will keep in touch on the other thread. It’s really educational reading these posts. Helps with understanding what’s to come and that each case is unique 🙂

I’m just about to start IVF and would really appreciate any thread recommendations! Just watched all the injection videos and about to do final consent forms so it’s getting very scary and real now

Spin101 · 09/01/2023 20:43

@JakkiL so sorry, I’ve only just seen this. I hope you’re IVF journey wasn’t as scary as the videos might have made it seem!

Hi there, how did you guys get on? I'm similar to OP where I'm concerned about being on this short protocol. My amh is low, although they've said for my age 39 it's actually not bad.

Spin101 · 17/08/2023 19:52

@Monyb It seems a lot of people were but on short protocol due to a shortage of drugs a while ago. Could you ask your consultant to explain why they’ve put you on this protocol instead of long?

@Imisscoffee2021
Do they shut down your ovaries with injection first
Or did you just start stims on period without ?
I saw someone say on short they started straight onto stims on period just.

Can I ask how old you are?
We're you taking any specific supplements prior to your collection

Imisscoffee2021 · 27/08/2023 01:24

@XStardustX I just started on period, no shutting down ovaries.

I took a conception multivit, co enzyme 10 I think and fir the successful frozen round high dose vit D to aid implantation. I read It Starts With the Egg and followed that avoiding plastics and chemicals too, anything to help! My husband took proxeed and gave you caffeine and alcohol like me too.
