HyCoSy vs Hysteroscopy

Has any one had both these procedures? I had a hysteroscopy last year that had to be stopped because it was the worst pain I’d ever experienced and induced a panic attack. I have to have a HyCoSy but I’m terrified of it being as painful and having to go through that again. I had the hysteroscopy under GA in the end. Had anyone had a HyCoSy under GA? Has this been NHS or private? Thank you!

I am so sorry to hear of your experience, sadly you aren’t alone.

If you feel able, the action group www.hysteroscopyaction.org.uk needs more stories of painful hysteroscopy / womb biopsy during outpatient procedures.

Women’s pain relief is often very lacking and the 4,000+ stories already gathered by the group are being dismissed as almost irrelevant given the 60k hysteroscopies now done every year in the UK.

See the website for more information and the anonymous patient survey.

The group is campaigning for all hysteroscopy / uterine biopsy patients to have:

• Full written information about the hysteroscopy/biopsy procedure including the risk of severe pain
• Safe and effective pain relief
• A genuine choice of no anaesthesia; local anaesthesia; safe monitored conscious sedation; epidural; general anaesthesia.

Thank you 🙏
