Which vaginal probiotic for low lactobacillus?

I had my EMMA results back, and my consultant has advised I start a vaginal probiotic.

I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on which one to buy and where I can buy from?

Also, has anyone who introduced probiotics actually had any success following multiple failures.

Hi @Prayformiracles I have been reading your post (very useful btw) as I’m in a similar position…will be doing my 4th Emma Alice test (started tests since last September) and trying to increase the lactobacillus levels. I recently had a failed FET (as doctor advised after 3rd test to try anyway) but have 3 frozen embryos left which have been PGTA tested so don’t want to waste these. Just wondered how many days before the test will you stop taking the vaginal probiotics? Also I can’t seem to buy Flora Femme either! Thanks

Hi all wondering if you can offer some advice UK based and can’t seem to buy a decent vaginal pessary. Is there one you would reccomend I can order?

Prayformiracles · 06/06/2024 19:42

@BearPanda sorry for late reply. For the emma and alice tests I was told that I only needed to stop vaginal probiotics one day before the tests. Did your lactobacillus show an increase after each of your emma tests? I presume you were using vaginal probiotics continuously during this period of time between each emma tests?
Re flora femme, I don't think you can get it in the UK. I checked with igenomix and they told me that they do not recommend this on the basis that it contains other things as well as lactobacillus and their advice is to only use probiotocs containing purely lactobacillus. I did however source vagibiom via someone we know in the USA as they also don't sell to UK. I have no idea if it is working or not. My pH seems to be off again despite it being good back in February. My next emma repeat test will be in a couple of weeks then a couple of weeks to get results so then I should know if vagibiom is working for me. All very uncertain.

Hi @AnxiousPoster I'm afraid the only thing I could find in UK was canesflor (which prob didn't work for me but I'm sure works for many people) and I have been buying probiofem from UK but I think they get it from France as it takes a while for delivery. Also vagibiom which i source from someone personally in usa. I also sourced two others via ebay (gynophilus and gynolact) but a couple of hours after use they would literally fall out so I gave up on those. So I'm just using the two vaginal ones. Don't know if that helps at all but hope so. Good luck.

@Gardenlady543 thank you. Are you in USA? I'm in UK. Can't seem to get hold of florafemme as they won't deliver to uk. And physioflor vaginal is unavailable everywhere. But I have ordered vagibiom, gynolact, gynophilus, probiofem - basically anything I could find that wasn't purely just plantarum/canesflor. My vaginal lactobacillus recently showed decent levels of crispatus but they don't offer a %. I might occasionally use the balance activ to keep it 'balanced'. I really hope and pray the lactobacillus will improve in the uterus too because I honestly don't know what else I can try.

Wondering if you could advise how you got vagibiom to the UK. I tried ebay and it says seller doesn't deliver to uk.
In similar position and desperately trying to get lactobacillus increased after a year I finally cleared infection.

@Pickle14 sorry you have also been struggling with this. So hard isn't it. My husband knew someone in usa. So we asked him to use his address to have the vagibiom delivered there. Then we arranged a courier to pick it up from him to deliver to uk. He was a bit sceptical but he did it. Good luck!

Thank you for replying. I think I will try the same thing. Which courier did you use?

Prayformiracles · 11/06/2024 20:48

@Pickle14 it was DHL

If you or anyone knows any other ways to improve lactobacillus, please let me know.
I am using all this stuff but quite anxious that it may not be working having used canesflor for 6 months and having non-detectable lactobacillus.
I want to be more hopeful as I have changed the probiotics I am using and using more but I still can't help wonder if there is something else going on down there because of the fact that canesflor hadn't worked after all that time of use. I have done emma, Alice, hysteroscopy and soon to be doing biopsy for ERA, repeat emma, nk cells.

@Gardenlady543 or anyone who reads this please!

Hi I don't know if anyone will see this message. I'm slightly panicky. I stupidly didn't think and used balance activ vaginal gel tonight only 36 hours after an endometrial scratch. They tell you not to put anything up there for at least a few days. I wasn't thinking straight, I feel a bit foggy since being on norethesterone so I can only blame my absent-mindedness on that, I'm usually so so careful with the 'rules'. I guess there's nothing I can do now but just wonder what negative thing might come from it? Feel like an fool!

Gardenlady543 · 13/02/2025 08:55

@Prayformiracles don't worry about it, they are likely giving quite broad advice to stop people putting things in that could cause an infection. A small acid pessary shouldn't cause harm.

I did a vaginal microbiome test and have low Lactobacillus, have been taking an oral probiotic but it didn't seem to do much. My IVF clinic weren't too bothered overall as i dont have bad bacteria, but recommended I use these three times a week in the run up to a FET. Haven't done a repeat test so I can't say what the result is, bur they're easy to buy and we're recommended to me by a doctor!

Hi all. I'm just coming into fet cycle but can't shift a residual cough from a cold I had about a week or so ago. I hope Consultant won't tell me to delay again. I have no fever and no other symptoms, don't seem to be contagious to my family. Really don't want to delay anymore 😕
