IVF day 3 embryos developing too fast?

Hi,

I have just had my day 3 IVF update post egg collection and am feeling a bit confused.

I had 17 eggs collected, of which 15 were mature, and 10 fertilised.

On day 3 I have been told that I have one good grade embryo which will be frozen, one poor quality embryo, and 8 others that are already morulas (i.e. dividing faster than expected).

I can't seem to find anyone else who has had this experience, and I am really hoping that maybe some of those 8 fast developers will make it to day 5 and be decent quality.

The clinic really didn't give much away and just said that this fast development is not what they would want ideally but that we will have to just wait and see.

I have heard of embryos taking a bit longer to catch up. But does anyone have experience of embryos developing more quickly than normal at day 3, and if so what was your outcome?

Any thoughts or advice would be really appreciated!

Thank you

Hi MaryJane,

I don't have any experience with embryos dividing faster than expected, I'm afraid. I just wanted to message as I'm a day behind you - got the call this morning to say that today (day 2) all are dividing.

I only had 6 eggs collected, 5 mature and they all fertilised. If they managed to make it through, I'll either be having a transfer tomorrow (day 3), or on Monday (day 5), or a split transfer where they put one in on day 3 and another on day 5.

So many unknowns, it drives you crazy!

10 fertilised eggs is such a great result though - congrats! I'd have thought that the faster they develop, the better...? I think you need to push them to give you some more info, it's already stressful enough with what we DO understand. Can you give them a ring back and demand a bit of clarity?

Is this your first IVF cycle? This is my third egg collection and will be my fourth transfer if I get to that stage. The first EC I got 2 blasts (both 5BB), did one fresh transfer, BFN, then another frozen, BFN too. Then I did another EC and got 3 blasts but had to freeze them all due to mild OHSS. I transferred the best quality one (5BA) in March this year, but unfortunately, a scan at 9 weeks showed no heartbeat (it all looked fine at the 7-week scan).

This time I did a fresh EC as I started with a new clinic and they recommended it.

It's such a rollercoaster. I'm really hoping this is it for me. I'm 38, so time is not on my side.

Sending lots of positive vibes your way - please do the same for me!
