Buserelin Shortage

Is anyone else impacted by this Buserelin shortage? I’ve been advised to wait until it becomes available again, but no idea how long that will be.

I can push for an alternative drug, but have been pre-warned that this is likely to be unsuccessful.

Between covid delays, an unsuccessful cycle and now this, feeling ridiculously disappointed.

I had started injecting buserelin for a FET when I realised my batch of meds would expire at the end of the month and I needed fresh ones… due to the national shortage they couldn’t get any so moved me on to Prostap instead. Is that an option?

Thank you for your reply. They’ve asked me to wait for three months before exploring other options.

Our clinic is making us wait too, it’s so frustrating as we were in the mind set to get started and all our other drugs are sat waiting.

we’ve not been given any alternative other than to wait and rely on getting updates.

Me too, 6 years trying so far with failed clomid (no response) then covid delays, ovarian drilling, more covid delays to be referred to ivf clinic started ivf and they pulled the cycle after having poor response to stims. Now ready to start again but the shortage which is for my trigger shot and no alternative option have to wait.
It's beyond heart breaking.
I feel like our life is constantly on hold, I don't want to book a holiday just incase our treatment starts soon, I don't want to start my degree because I don't want too much stress just incase my treatment starts soon and I don't want to change jobs for the same reason.
We have been told also that if I don't respond properly to these drugs then there is nothing more they can do :(

If it’s any consolation, I feel your pain. I’ve never voluntarily signed up for anything that gives your mental health such a battering.

I’m booking a holiday and am going to lie on the beach and forget about IVF because once you’re back on that rollercoaster everything stops again.

I wish you all the luck x

Our clinic called today to say they would be sending our prescription for buserelin to the pharmacy to hopefully get it dispatched next week, I’ve got everything crossed and don’t want to get excited until I have it my hand.
There may be hope after all!

Thanks, that’s really helpful.

Is yours a private clinic or an NHS one? I know that some NHS clinics do have some stock. Just before I ring and harass mine in the morning!

I have also had a call today to be told that I have had a prescription put through for buserelin. I have been delayed starting until it was back in stock. Fingers crossed they’re back to normal asap and don’t have a crazy high demand that gets cleared out instantly.

Sarab2020 · 02/09/2022 08:34

It’s a private one, we’re based up in Manchester.

definitely worth giving your clinic a call to find out

Our doctor mentioned the shortage in medication and suggested there is demand for the medication for trans medicine.
