IVF and invisalign

Hi all,

Bit of a strange question but has anyone had Invisalign while going through IVF, was it ok with you dentist/fertility clinic? I’m keen to get Invisalign and have had the various measurements and scans taken etc (of my teeth that is..) but I’m just a bit scared about going ahead and the impact on IVF success as I may do another full IVF cycle fairly soon.

Have researched and as long as you don’t have X- rays then you can have Invaslign in pregnancy. Also apparently the plastic used in Invisalign is safe, non toxic and BPA free. Anyone done this? I keep putting it off but it never seems to happen due to various FETs (done one already which resulted in a chemical and gearing up for another FET currently) and potentially another full cycle of IVF this year, pending the result of FET.

Thanks all!

@Sultanafan I’ve had them separately but not together. I still wear my Invisalign retainers at night and my dentist hasn’t warned me not to. They did say not to use any whitening products etc. Might be best to just ask the dentist? I would say I found Invisalign pretty uncomfortable each time I changed trays (every 2weeks from memory), and wouldn’t have fancied doing it at the same time as egg collection but I guess that’s only a month. totally get that you don’t wanting to put your life on hold.

I would have never thought to ask this but glad you brought it up cos I also use invisalign. Could you let me know when you learn more?

I did actually ask my dentist this recently as was planning to do it at a time that coincided with doing IVF and then potential pregnancy. My dentist said there was nothing medical that contra-indicated doing it alongside IVF or pregnancy, but she also said that it is intermittently painful / uncomfortable and as someone who had gone through IVF herself, she wouldn’t be putting her body through any additional unnecessary stress (like teeth moving/hurting!) at the same time. I decided to wait (in case that helps).

Makes sense.. I'll just keep the retainer I've already had for a week (it doesn't hurt anymore) and that way they won't shift back.
thank you!!

I did both at the same time but was coming towards the end of my invisalign journey as I did stims. I had a terrible time with egg collection so I'm glad I wasn't at a painful part of the straightening process while I recovered from EC. Saying that, most people are fine after EC so I wouldn't let it stop you. Teeth are only sore for a day or two after changing aligners

Thanks very much all. This is really helpful and I probably will just get on with the invisalign. Just paranoid about anything interfering with IVF working but think the two are completely disconnected and I’m just being daft!
