I'm just putting this out there in the hopes that if even just one person see's this and is somewhat comforted like I was..

Last night I turned the tv on and a film was on bbc1 called 'only you'.

As I turned it on it was literally in the middle as the couple were going through a transfer in ivf.

The film then saw the couple throughout their struggles with infertility and oh my god it was so so accurate. Even down to the attitudes of friends etc. and as someone with particularly unsupportive friends and family this was so relatable.

I have never seen a film that has tackled infertility so to randomly turn this on, in the middle of yet another two week wait that I know will result in my period, provided me with such somewhat comfort and was just there at the right time.

I just had to post as hopefully it will be on bbc iplayer for somebody else like me to watch.

Are there any other film or tv recommendations about ivf and infertility that I could also watch?

@whattheactualfck thank you- we have decided not to tell anyone so I will give this a watch- there is a thread where a few of us are in 2ww would you like me to tag you?

@PMAmostofthetime

Thank you.
I would but unfortunately my two week wait is more like waiting for the impossible at the moment. Thank you very much for the offer though x

OP, we absolutely loved this film. We both cried when we watched it and DH very very rarely cries. It is so so accurate. It was But therapy and it connected me with DH. but also it’s beautifully made and so stylish. I find one of the the most moving parts is when she says there is a 20 year gap in our lives when everyone is having kids and what will we do? Also when she looks out the window at a little girl playing with her parents and just draws a circle through the condensation of the window. I watched it before our first IVF cycle (which ended in miscarriage). I’m glad I watched it as it gave me some insight into the pain of the process. And it also made me feel a huge amount of relief that someone understood, and that all these feelings were completely normal.

When she hits her fist on the door and says she’s not normal, that she’s not a ‘real’ woman and he will leave her…I’ve felt all those things before….it was the most moving film I’ve ever seen.

@EuropeRoadtrip

Oh I'm so pleased someones watched it too!!

I just couldn't believe the timing of me turning the tv on and it being at that exact point.

Yes to the 20 year gap - such another accurate way of putting it too. My favourite part was when her friend told her to stop going for ivf and she said how she was grieving for a child she doesn't even know. Imagining all of the scenarios of how the things she'll do with her child, how it will behave etc. all of it was just perfect. Perfect, perfect film.

The 'real woman' bit again - exactly how I've been speaking to my husband too. How my body has failed me etc. with the one thing a woman is 'meant' to do.

Honestly could sit here and talk about this film all night, so pleased to find somebody else who it has affected so passionately (but unfortunately for all the wrong reasons).

I hope ivf worked for you in the end. Xx

I also want to watch private life and a german film called what we wanted.. not sure if they're helpful but definitely relatable. Have you watched either?

whattheactualfck · 31/07/2022 22:47

@Minamina

No I haven't watched either so will definitely find them.

I have no idea if they are helpful to watch either or just torturous but I certainly felt understood and less lonely.

I've watched the first two series of trying on Apple TV (a long, long while before I started ttc and my diagnosis too!) which were good but they did tend to lead straight into adoption rather than the actual struggles of infertility. Unsure if series three has covered the infertility side more or not. Worth watching either way! X
