Holiday after a FET

Hoping someone can give me some insight as I’m due to have my first FET next month. With rough dates I’ve estimated it will be around 31st August for the transfer but I’m due to go on holiday on 9th September. Anyone who has had a FET before is there any reason I can’t go away? I’m guessing it will be a nice way to take my mind of things during the tww (is the wait still 2 weeks with a FET?) but not sure if I’m missing something and I should stay at home? Holiday is booked and paid for so can’t really not go, only other option is so cancel the FET but I wouldn’t be able to have it until Jan if we do that as DH works away and won’t be here consistently until then and doesn’t want to miss it or leave me on my own during the wait. Anyone out there which an reassure me it will be ok?

I am sure you would be absolutely fine. As long as you are carful and not carrying heavy bags and take it easy. If you are at home or aboard as long as you take it easy I cant see what difference it would make. If you are unsure just ask the clinic. Best of luck xxxx

@Ivfhopeful22 ask your clinic- they may suggest flight socks or something. If your going anywhere- where there could be Zika virus- so long hill Caribbean/ Mexico they will tell you not to go as Zika can cause servers abnormalities in the baby.

If you need to change y oh can postpone or change destination's with most package holidays for a cost- I had to change mine as we were due to go away in the middle of second cycle- unfortunately it was postponed due to Covid- totally wasn't planned- so we paid and changed the destination and date.

@Melly8080 thanks 😊

@PMAmostofthetime thank you! That’s really helpful didn’t even think of socks, will check with the clinic too. It’s Dubai so hopefully Zika free but will check it out!

I’m also following with interest. We may be having a FET early/mid September if everything goes to plan and we were hoping to go away for a few days at the end of September (my partner has a conference in the destination for one of the days so we also can’t change the dates!). It may even line up with OTD. I’m not sure what to do - I don’t want to miss out on either, but I also don’t think I’m going to be 100% chilled about going - even though that’s probably irrational!

@Ivfhopeful22 @Leaf86

I have just realised that lots of people have IVF abroad and have very successful pregnancies so unless there's an issues with Zika I checked Dubai for you and there's not- there shouldn't be any issue.

Ivfhopeful22 · 27/07/2022 11:54

@PMAmostofthetime Ah that’s so kind thanks. I didn’t even think of people who go abroad for treatment and then fly back home.
I’m thinking we’ll go as long as I feel ok post transfer but doesn’t seem to be any reason I won’t.
@Leaf86 I’ll let you know how I get on. I should be away for OTD too, I guess if it’s bad news at least I’ll be on holiday and not going to work, that’s how I’m looking at it anyway. Good luck!

Hello! I’d check with your clinic but there is advice out there about avoiding sunbathing/being in the sun post transfer. For the same reasons that you should avoid a hot bath etc, it can affect implantation/developing embryo.

Doesn’t mean you can’t go obviously but might mean you have to rethink what you’d be doing. x

@Ivfhopeful22

Found this in my guide

@PMAmostofthetime my clinic got back to me. Seems to be fine from their point of view will just need to make sure I have enough medication with me if I do get a positive result so I can keep taking it. They did say they act upon any bleeding after a positive test so that’s the only thing to be aware of if it is positive it would be better to not be away for too long incase I do get any bleeding and need to go in. I didn’t even realise I’d go in for that but good to know.
Feeling a lot happier about going now anyway. Thanks for all your help!
