Is passing clots on period a symptom of infertility?

DH and I have been TTC our second for 7(!!) years now. We've had a ton of tests and all come back normal, I last had a transvaginal scan of everything in November 2021.

I'm on day 3 of my cycle and I've realised that some months (not every) I experience acute cramping followed by passing large clots. I just wonder if maybe these clots are a sign of implantation failure or something else?

Do you think I should be taking baby aspirin or something? I have normal cycle lengths and I just wonder if there's anything I could be doing to help implantation?

Hi, @DoneAdulting afraid I don’t have any advise and suggest you talk to your dr before taking meds, but I thought I’d tag along as I’d love to know if this is something someone’s discussed with their dr. I meant to ask at my last consultation. I’m currently taking clexane blood thinners to reduce the chance of blood clots - they’re thought to be a cause of repeat implantation failure, but I didn’t ask whether blood clots in your period blood are a symptom.

My guess is that something fundamental has been missed and it could be that either one or equally both of you is causing the sub fertility.

People who think they’ve had all the tests done actually have not in many cases. Who have you been seeing re this issue, your GP or have you approached a private fertility clinic?.

Any test results over 6 months should be discounted, you both need up to date test results. Cramping and passing clots should be investigated further to ascertain the cause of such bleeding. Endometriosis can cause such to arise and that is not detected on ultrasound scans.

You need a diagnosis first and foremost. Do not take medication like baby aspirin without seeking medical advice.

@DoneAdulting @AttilaTheMeerkat just to clarify my daily blood thinning injections are part of my ivf treatment - they’re obviously not something I’ve self diagnosed! I have recurrent ivf implantation failure and have been prescribed clexane for this, I also have clotted periods but I don’t know if they’re directly linked. If I remember I’ll ask my specialist consultant next week. Def go speak to your fertility specialist!!
