OHSS or just post retrieval pain

PMAmostofthetime · 16/07/2022 08:59

I had EC on Wednesday- 20 eggs collected from 20 follicles.
This is my 2nd EC last time I got 8 eggs and was not sore at all.

This time I'm bloated and very sore- my stomach hurts when I wee and the nights are the worst.

Anyone offer any suggestions of pain relief please. X

Oh bless you I feel your pain! I had/still have OHSS and it’s awful! Sounds like it could deffo be the start of it I’m afraid 😢

although it’s a slightly different situation as mine was caused by a BFP I was given paracetamol and codeine for pain - send DP to the pharmacy and they should be able to pick some up for you. I was told no anti-inflammatories.

drink lots of water, I also drank lucozade sport and coconut water for the electrolytes. Eat small amounts often with plenty of protein and salty food also helps apparently according to dr Google - free pass for eating salty crisps 😂😂

you could also start weighing yourself daily in the mornings to see if your gaining weight rapidly and measure your stomach also.

if you start vomiting or stop peeing you need to seek medical attention asap!

I really hope it resolves quickly for you and doesnt get too bad, I assume you had a HCG trigger 🙈 oh bless you it’s really really not nice at all!!

@EmzieMurf1987 Thank you so much for your reply and congratulations!
I have been drinking 3 litres a day and 2 lucozade sport- I'll start eating little and often.
Sadly I think this will stop my ET Monday. I'm peeing a lot! But my stomach hurts when I need to go and I can't stand up straight.

Aw thank you @PMAmostofthetime it’s still early days so I’m trying not to get too attached.

oh dear, I couldn’t stand up straight either, all movement was painful and the only way I could get comfortable was sitting/lying at 45 degrees propped on pillows. I truly hope you start to feel better soon! I totally understand it must be frustrating with the prospect of having to cancel ET - but if that little Embie takes things will get a lot worse and you could end up in hospital in even more pain 😢😢 and symptoms can continue until the second trimester! I wasn’t even a risk of OHSS and it somehow happened 🙈🙈 if I was in your position I would let my body recover and do a FET once things have settled.

really hope things get better for you soon 😘😘

@PMAmostofthetime I second what pp has said.
The first time ivf for me I had mild OHSS but it was enough to make me soooo poorly
I was sick, had diarrhoea and crippled with pain, I was so upset at the thought of not being able to have my transfer but I did go for it but it was touch and go if it went ahead but unfortunately it didn't take but the second cycle It did it was successful and currently pregnant

But with this cycle I was so set on being well for transfer as I spent so long being so poorly last cycle and it wasn't pleasant and like pp said if takes you can end up in hospital for weeks so god knows how Ill I would have been if it did take

Second cycle I didn't develop OHSS as bad but I did have soreness and bloated ness which lasted a while and ended up with lots of cysts. They did dissipate by my 12 week scan but I was so so worried in the early days, it added to my anxiety. So although it went ahead but I just want to say I can relate to the sadness of not going ahead with transfer but the extra added worry of being poorly didn't help.

Plus your body gets time to heal and be in the best position for FET which I didn't realise at the time

X

Oh and also yes it could just be post retrieval pain but see if your clinic can give you some guidance- mine were brilliant

I drank so much coconut water and also mixed in lucozade isotonic when I got bored of coconut water
I swear by the coconut water and sure it made a huge difference x

PMAmostofthetime · 18/07/2022 12:29

Thank you all for your replies- Day 5 today and I'm off to the clinic for a check up. The pain has gone and Coconut water, lucozade and litres of water a day definitely helped.
Thanks so much

I'm looking for some advice please for those who may have experienced similar.

I had my first scan since starting stims (day 7) this morning and had 15 follicles on my left and 11 on my right.

They have said that if I get to EC (hopefully Wednesday) and there's more than 20 collected then I will have to do a freeze all and potentially wait a few months for my body to recover before the transfer.

Anyone else had this please? Or any advice on how to minimise the chances of this happening please?
