Impact of covid on sperm - 4 months later?

Hi,

Just thought I'd post to see if anyones in a similar boat!

Has anyones partners sperm been negatively affected in the longer term from having covid? I know it probably can't be scientifically proven unless you had really well timed tests... but where you think it's playing a part?

We went to see Dr R today and he thinks my partners previous 2 sperm analysis (taken in March and April) were likely impacted by having Covid in December!! The results from both previous tests showed really low sperm count/motility etc.

We have been doing some at home semen tests with Exseed since but he discounted those results due to inaccuracy.

My partner did another semen test today along with some other blood/urine tests etc but just thought it would be helpful to see if anyone else has suspected similar?

My partner had been prescribed anastrazole today and we need to go back in 5 weeks for another semen test and an ultrasound as they also found a varicocele.

Thanks in advance x

Yes my husbands was badly affected by covid, mainly his DNA frag was raised. Mr Ramsay said he thought it was covid as all other tests were negative. It took 1.5 years but now it's back to normal. But he had delta, I've heard omicron doesn't affect it as badly

Thanks for responding!

He said the same to us. Crikey, 1.5 years?! Glad everything returned now.

It's crazy isn't it!! Fingers crossed the tablets help and we notice a positive movement in the next 5 weeks. Mr R is great isn't he? x

Hi @HayMay

I don’t have any confirmed experience but I’m intrigued to see the responses to your query. What does anastrazole treat?

We also had an appointment with Dr Ramsay this week. My husband had the ultrasound today which didn’t show anything and is getting the blood and further analysis next week. I expect we are going to be told the decline in semen quality and fragmentation is down to covid. My husband has had it 3 times now. We managed to get pregnant naturally in 2019 and early 2020 before he had it (both miscarriages unfortunately) and have achieved no natural pregnancies since. IVF results have been varied (despite ICSI) and his most recent dna fragmentation is pretty bad.

@Dbop100 I can’t believe it took 1.5 years to get back to normal. I’m sure my husband had delta too (and omicron). I hope you’ve had success since your partners results improved!

He's hoping the prescription helps get the sperm back to normal quicker. My partners hormone blood tests from April were all ok except for high FSH (which is expected when sperm is low), his testosterone etc was all normal.

Will be interesting to see what todays tests show when we go back in 5 weeks!

My partner has got a varicocele which we didn't know about too Mr R said today - so he said it will be measured on an ultrasound when we next go.

It's all a minefield isn't it?

Do you mind me asking your partners numbers? My partners total motile sperm count in April was 3.36 million!! Mr R didn't seem too concerned today though and was very reassuring, I guess we'll just need to see where we are next time?

It's good to speak to someone who's going through similar who is also seeing Mr R! Sending baby dust your way, it's so hard isn't it x

So hard! I feel like we take one step forward and two steps back constantly.

Ah ok - my partner has never been offered any blood tests before so it’ll be interesting to see what they show next week.

His morphology has been the most impacted - it’s gone from 11% to 2/3%. His average comet score has gone from 30% to 38%. I’m not sure of the count actually but no-one has ever mentioned it as a concern so (maybe foolishly) I hope it’s okay.

I’m glad Mr Ramsay gave you some reassurance! We found him very reassuring too. I just hope he can help us both out (and relatively quickly).

baby dust to you too!

Sorry, I should add that both comet tests were after he had covid. The second one was after he had it for the second time but maybe 5/6 months later
