HSG to check for misshapen tubes

Hi, my recurrent miscarriage dr has ordered me a hsg. I thought this was usually to check for blocked tubes but I was told it is to see if the shape of my tubes is normal. I have had numerous scans over the past year (6 miscarriages). I know my tubes are not blocked as i am getting pregnant but if they are misshapen would a normal transvaginal scan would pick that up. Would a misshapen tube affect a pregnancy? I’m now seeing dr Shehata who specialises in reproductive immunology. He has told me not to bother with the hsg, he said he is confident there is nothing wrong with my uterus or tubes (I have a 4 year old). He told me
the procedure is painful and a waste of
time. I just wonder whether I should have it anyway on the off chance this is a thing. Has anyone been told similar?

Hi there,

Tubes are not seen om trasvaginal ultrasounds, only with a HSG. Procedure is not really painful, enough to take only a panadol afterwards. For some people it works as flushing the pipes due to the liquid they introduce.

@Cherry35 thank you for your reply, I know my tubes are not blocked (or at least one of them isn’t!) but I hadn’t come across such a thing is misshapen tubes which would lead to pregnancy loss. I guess I’ve nothing to lose by having it but can’t deny I’m a bit scared! My miscarriage clinic dr basically offered it me as a last resort as everything else came back clear and said it’s up
to you we can try it? So felt a bit half hearted as if he knew it would be a waste of time. Now I’ve read up about it I’m sure my issues are immune related. Hopefully I will get the results from that clinic back soon and then I’ll know for sure

I believe it also shows the shape and normality of the womb from memory

I've had 2 - one in 2011 when TTC my first and fell pregnant that very cycle (this can be common as it clears the tubes)

And one last year as had secondary infertility and sadly it didn't result in a natural conception but it we then started IVF after x
