Hello,

Does anyone know how long do you have to wait on the waiting list to get an hysteroscopy done?

Thank you

I don't know the answer but am in the same position. Recently been told I need to have the procedure done but don't know NHS waiting times. Also trying to find out options/costs to go private but that's completely new to me too. Will share if I find out!

@anneso2010 @waitee i was recommended for one last year, I waited 3months on the nhs without hearing anything and so made the decision to go private and had it done the following week. I would assume wait times have improved but back then I was told it could be 6months. Re costs private, I think we paid approx £4K - if you contact the hospital they’ll happily give you a cost.

I had the procedure done in February on NHS. It was a rather unexpected appointment as when I checked the waiting times of the Trust in my area, it was shown as an average of 9 months for any gynaecological procedure. Based on that I asked my GP to only refer me to private treatment but a month later I received a NHS appointment! By then I had already booked a private appointment at St George's hospital in London which was going to cost £1800 (£500 for the consultant and £1300 for using the hospital facilities). And the NHS appointment was only two weeks later than the private. The consultant who did the procedure was so helpful. As soon as I told him it was in preparation for IVF, he asked his team to squeeze me in for an early procedure - the NHS procedure does involve two steps: an initial assessment and the procedure itself whilst with private it's done in one go. Now looking back my GP not only referred me to the NHS but may have also stressed the urgency due to IVF. I was very grateful. So I guess it depends on the area you're in and your local Trust. It's definitely worth speaking with your GP.

@yyica @Agapanthus13 @waitee Thank you all for your response. Much appreciated.

I am based in London. I will enquire to see how much it cost to do it private. I don't know if I can get it done quicker/cheaper under BUPA?

No problem @anneso2010 if you ring BUPA they will tell you if your policy covers this kind of procedure.

@anneso2010 Hey , I have been referred too to nhs and I rang up and they said 6-8 months waiting time xx

ShareLove · 14/07/2022 16:13

@anneso2010 Waiting time for me is 6-8 months due to Covid backlog . Xx all the people who needed hysteroscopy didn’t get one when Covid was around so not it’s a massive wait for me .

@ShareLove Makes sense when put into perspective. Thank you.
