Hey
My husband and I have been trying to cocieve for 3 years now with no joy. I have two children from previous and he doesn't have any.
We have gone through testing with our gp it shows my eggs are healthy and fertile however his count is very low.
Would we need to go through the full procedure in ivf ? I'm trying to get as much information as possible.

Thank you 😊

Hi Shelldan
If it is just sperm count that is the issue, there may be things you can do to improve this.
Lifestyle can make a big difference - reducing alcohol, quitting smoking, healthy weight & following mediterranean diet / eating lots of nuts, avoiding hot baths/tubs/saunas, wearing loose fitting clothing, boxers not briefs, limit cycling, standing desk etc. etc. Basically anything to help keep the area cool!
There are also a number of supplements you can take - Impryl / Proceive.
It takes around 3 months of changes before you start to see any difference in results though.
Low count can also be linked to other underlying things, there may be an infection which can be treated with antibiotics or a varicocele can also impact count (which can be treated with surgery.) Your GP may be able to refer you to a urologist for further investigations. We went private and used Johnathan Ramsey - a name you might see alot on this board as he comes highly recommended!
In terms of progressing to IVF, it really depends on the count and whats driving it. If it is very low and showing no signs of improvement after further investigations/lifestyle changes then it may well be something to consider further down the line.
My husband count was originally c. 1-3m million & had issues with morphology and motility also. Under Ramsey & with a varicole embolization plus the lifestyle changes & supplements his count improved to between 8-15m but we were still recommended to do IVF with ICSI which we are currently in the middle of.
Best of Luck!
