Long cycles

Hi everyone,

I hope I put this on the correct board.

I'm currently on cycle day 51 and getting pretty fed up.

Anyone else like this? Does it affect anything?

I recently came off the pill. They used to be irregular before this when I was young. Had a few scans and ovaries look fine and my periods aren't particularly painful so don't think it could be endometriosis?

Is it just that I dont ovulate regularly?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

You also need up to date test/ultrasound scan results; anything done over 6 months ago should be discounted.

A condition called polycystic ovaries or its close relative PCOS can cause periods to be irregular in nature. The cystic follicles associated with this can and do disappear - only to be replaced by further cystic follicles. As your periods were irregular prior to taking the pill it could be something like PCO/S or a problem with your thyroid gland. Both can be looked for through blood tests. It is certainly in your interests to find out what is causing the irregularity.
