Disappointed with eggs collected

I'm 36 and was told I responded well to stims. My scans were showing 17-20 follicles during the week and they only retrieved 10 :(

How many eggs should I expect to be fertilised, go to 5 days and then PGT normal?

Didn’t you have an app with a consultant? Genuine question as I’m baffled this wasn’t covered or you didn’t ask her / him

Yep. They said about half of the day 5s should be normal. But I'm unsure if the drop-off for fertilisation, day 3 etc.

Has anyone incites into what theres are?
Is 10 eggs OK?

Listen, I was devastated when instead of the predicted 12 eggs I got 7. Devastated! I thought I was out.

But then all fertilised, 4 got to blast stage and 2 were suitable for transfer. 1 failed, the other currently a very new BFP.

Despite getting only 7, I got the same results as you could expect statistically with 15. And I’m a year older than you.

So you never know. Don’t despair.

Honestly the number really doesn't make much difference although I know how disappointing it is to have a sort of target in your head and then not reach it.
I had 14 eggs one collection but only 4 fertilised and of those 2 made blastocyst and PGTA both came back abnormal. Next egg collection only got 2 but both fertilised both made blastocyst and ended up having twins.
Unfortunately what IVF clinics don't tell you is how much of a gamble every cycle is

10 sounds great to me. You want quality rather than quantity. I over responded to meds and got 25 first go with no fertilisation, so they changed my protocol on the second go to try and get fewer eggs. Didn’t particularly work, as I still had 20, only one of which was any good. But she’s happily playing with her Lego as I type.

If it helps, I got 2 eggs, 1 embryo….and it worked. He’s now 7!

I asked the very same question a few months ago after having 10 eggs retrieved. I had a similar follicle count to you so was quite anxious that numbers were dwindling already. Crazily 10 fertilised, 7 we’re good to test, and we have 3 normal. Don’t despair!

I had 72 follicles and 25 eggs collected (expected more from that follicle count!)
As I'd overresponded only 7 eggs fertilised and only 1 made it to blast (untested). I'm taking meds now to prep for FET in July.

It's definitely no use thinking about the numbers as hard as that is. All you can hope for is quality really. Good luck!!

The clinic rang and 8 were mature and all 8 fertilized. Now onto day 3 wait😂

It’s so hard not to worry isn’t it. 8 fertilised is a great number though. I had 8 and 6 made it to Blastocyst. The first one worked and she’s 9 months now. I have 5 in the freezer. Good luck!!

As others have said, try not to get too hung up on the numbers - it's not over until the fat lady sings! 10 is a great start. I had 6 collected, 5 fertilised, 2 looking good at day 3 but only one viable for transfer on day 5. That was one of the slow growers from day 3 (the two which were looking good stopped developing), and it hadn't even reached full blastocyst so wasn't gradeable. She's 10 months now.

There are 6 looking good today day 3 and 2 lagging behind. The clinic also advised of a 40% drop off to day 5 :(

I just wanted to say the clinics just give you an average for everything and in my case it's so random.

I got 30 mature eggs, 24 fertilized (insane numbers, I know). They told me 40-50% would survive until day 5, so approximately 10-12. 23 survived and were frozen, all exactly the same quality. So you could be the average or you could be an outlier. I'm not sure there's any real rhyme or reason.

9 eggs, 8 mature, 4 fertilised, 1 day 5 blast that was biopsied and currently chilling in the freezer.

its so hard to look at other peoples numbers, but I know people who have had 15ish eggs and ended up with nothing, there’s no rhyme or reason :/
