I have high prolactin around 1,080 and I've had a mri scan which confirm I have a pituitary microadenoma. I've been referred to a endocrinologist but it seems like I want get any answer until August. I'm tired of having to wait any longer when I only need medication to bring it down. All my other hormones and thyroids have been check everything is normal. Can I just go private to receive the medication I'm confused on how private healthcare works. Does anyone have any advice please x

@Beunique the medication they put you on will need to be monitored for correct dose with ongoing blood tests and you'll need further MRIs in future so it is probably better to wait to be honest. I know August probably seems ages away at the moment but once you are on the medication it really will work very quickly.

Thank you this has put my mind at ease. I haven't been given much information about the next process so google has been my best friend.

I have been on cabergoline for the last 15 years for the same, from what I remember it kicks in quite quickly. Also my endocrinologist recently told me it is still possible to conceive when it is under 2000 although under 500 is preferable

Mrsworried1 · 02/09/2022 20:38

Mine is 650. Told I need it repeated. What will likely happen next?
i am not trying to conceive but have the inconvenience of bleeding ALL the time. Hence the hormone bloods. But just this one came back high. X

Hi @Beunique just wondering if you have any updated as I am in a similar situation. Thanks

Hi I paid to see a private endocrinologist that I spoke to via video call and he prescribed me cabergoline once a week. I then paid for my own private blood test to monitor my levels and my levels dropped from 1,080 to 480 in the space of three weeks. I also had an appointment with the nhs endocrinologist and they just prescribed me the medicine because I’m already on the cabergoline. The private endocrinologist was more informative and compassionate so he was worth the money and my mind is at finally at ease. Hope this is helpful

Hello,

Do you know if you still released an egg each month with your high levels? Thank you

Once you're having regular periods and positive ovulation test it's likely an egg is being released. It's better to get help from your gp to decrease it because it goes down instantly.

Thank you, I’ve only just found out about my high prolactin levels and I was just surprised that my bloods came back today that I ovulated and I really thought prolactin stopped that!

I think high prolactin effects implantation because it can mask other hormones. when my prolactin was high, my testosterone levels was normal but once my prolactin was in normal range then my testosterone levels was high, which led me to finding out I have pcos but luckily I still ovulate. I've found out my ttc journey has been so long because my partner has extremely low sperm count. If it's been more than a year definitely get your partner tested. We tend to focus on ourselves a lot before thinking it could be them
