Egg repelling sperm - won’t bind together

Hi just checking if anybody done IVF where the egg and sperm wouldn’t meet? (It was explained to us like magnets repelling instead of attracting). The 6 eggs collected did not fertilise. We have now been told we need to do ICSI but no further explanation.
The previous semen sample didn’t show any issues. We are trying to find out if the issue is with the egg or sperm before we proceed.

I have read an article once about compatibility. I don't remember all the details but basically it said that some people are more compatible than others, and some ovocytes can attract up to 20% more sperm, resulting in an increased chance of pregnancy.

So if that's possible I guess the opposite also should be possible. But still, zero fertilized out of six sounds surprising. Have you tested dna frag and immunes yet ? Was this your first round ?

Also just because no eggs fertilized this time doesn't mean it wouldn't work on a subsequent attempt, but considering the time, money and emotional pain I can understand why they'd recommand ICSI to be on the safe side.

Rotten situation to be in, either way. You must have been really disappointed. Take care of yourself.

No we have had no further testing.

I think it’s something that needs looked into further before we go again but docs don’t seem that bothered about it but I ain’t content.
thanks I will look out for that article
