Hi all,
I finally had my fertility appointment today after a very long wait. I left feeling rather disappointed due to my raised bmi being the main focus of the appointment. They have arranged a semen analysis for my partner and a HSG test for myself which is positive but the doctor made it a big thing that I need to get my bmi down to at least 36/37 before they will even consider clomid.
What really annoyed me is that my current bmi is in fact 37. However, today at the clinic, the nurse must’ve measured my height wrong as she put me down as 5ft1 when in fact I’m 5ft5! So according to their notes I have a bmi of over 42! I questioned this with the dr but she dismissed it and didn’t even suggest I go and get it rechecked 😩
sorry for the long rant but does anyone else feel like us pcos ladies constantly get undermined for our raised bmi?

Sorry to hear this! Stay positive I have pcos and conceived two children natrually.

Wait loss helped me lost a stone then normal cycles again. Drs told me any weight loss even 1g can make your body reset your hormones which might explain the bmi stuff they focused on.

I found a low gi diet for pcos massively helped me. It was 6 months of veg, chicken, fruit and not much sugar but resulted in two babies for me.

I read a book by a dr called Maryiln - natural way for pcos and it massively helped my understanding of pcos and how it relates to food and hormones. That helped me more than any dr appointments!

I found vitamin b12 good people with pcos sometimes dont have enough and can help regulate hormones.

Hi

I just followed a lot Gi diet based on what I like to eat for 6 months. My pcos was bad testerone was 12 times higher than a normal person. Losing weight, b12 vitamins and the gym in 6 months hormones all normal my gp was shocked.

I read this book, loads of useful info in it. However becareful as the dr sells expensive vitamins etc so avoid getting them and I don't believe some of the stuff eg shower gels and plastic containers can affect your hormones.

My gym told me berries arent good for you as spike your sugar so I had them after a meal not as breakfast as I first started. Not sure if this helped my hormones or not.

I got more help from this book than my gp or gynaecologist speailists.

Thankyou for all of your help. I’ve ordered the book which was only £2 odd on eBay 😊
I definitely agree that low carb helps massively as I lost around 3 stone many many years ago following a low carb and sugar diet. Now to keep motivated and stick with it long term!

No problem! The dr who wrote it also has clinics in person or virtual for people with pcos and can do diet plans etc but when I looked into it years ago costs too much. On social media she posts videos on pcos which are interesting and free to watch. I was recommended the book by my friend whose daughter has pcos and she found it really useful. Enjoy the read!

Hi, I've got PCOS and am in the early stages of trying to conceive. My cycles are regulating (averaging between 29-35 days). Been referred to the fertility clinic, but like you, conversation just fixated on losing weight. I've sorted my diet and I'm actively at the gym. But I also want medical help and them to listen...so I completely understand how you are feeling frustrated! x

Minamina · 10/06/2022 19:00

Jumping on here! My BMI is also too high, and have PCOS. Been TTC for a couple years now and need to make a new plan. Looked into the book and can't wait to receive it! Thank you all so much!

RMS0209 · 10/06/2022 19:21

Sorry to hear that! Thats the same experience I had! Ended up doing my own research myself as drs were useless and said come back in a year after trying to get help.

No worries! I hope my experience and what I learnt can help people. I felt very alone after being diagnosed no one else to speak to about it and drs didnt help or care.

Minamina · 14/06/2022 16:45

@Littleonek That means a lot. I hope I can do the same for others some day! all the best
