IVF at 41, some bleeding 8 days after transfer

Hello wonderful ladies,

I hope you are keeping well. I had IVF for the first time with an embryo transfer of a 5BB5dt and a 5CC5dt.

My beta test was still close to zero on the 6th day past the embryo transfer. Since the 8th day past transfer I have some bleeding (this is yesterday). I thought it was the beginning of my period but my doctor said it might be implantation. He raised the progesterone I am taking.

When I spoke to my doctor I had a number of red spots (looked exactly like the 'first signs of a period + cramps) but I would not have called it building. Truth is though that since then there has been an increase in the bleeding. It is not heavy bleeding, but it is not spotting for sure.

Any thoughts? As you can imagine I can not take my mind off this. Tomorrow I will do another blood test - my doctor insisted not today.

Thank you in advance for your support,

Kind regards,

Elena.

Hi @Sunrise2022 sorry that you're having this experience. Was it a fresh transfer or a frozen one?

I've never heard of a clinic doing a blood test 6 days after transfer before, are you having treatment in the UK or overseas? Are you still bleeding and is it still red? The horrible truth is there's simply no way to know what's going on until you have another blood test. Some people have bleeding and all is ok, for others it's not so their experiences won't be exactly the same as yours.

Upping the progesterone should stop any breakthrough bleeding if your levels are low, so that's good. I hate to say that all you can do is sit tight and wait it out because I find it impossible myself but there's really not much else you can do. Time is an enemy during IVF, you want it to either speed up or slow down and never more so than during the TWW. I hope it's good news for you.

Hello @lucymills1234 thank you so much for your kind message.

I had my second blood Hcg test and it was close to zero again, therefore the bleeding was my period. It is strange as I was on a high dosage of progesterone, but there you go...

When I did my first blood Hcg test it was out of impatience, it was a bit earlier than what I was instructed, but not too early! Anyway :) good news never came!

This is a very tough journey for some of us... keeping fingers crossed to reach the destination at least!

Thank you so much for your kind message, once again xxx
